Mine has made it to Canada Customs as of today. Now it will sit there for a week waiting for someone to check it for drugs etc. Then if all the planets line up I might have it this time next week.

kuruption,

So how many wires are coming out of the fan controllers? Would it be possible to e-mail a copy of this version of the fans schematics?

Thanks

.

Here's the link to the post in this topic.
I noticed that both fans are wired to come on with the a/c. Is that how Troyer says to wire it, or is that your mod? Just wondering. I have looked at schematic for flex fan kit. Only one fan comes on with the a/c.

Only the one fan will come on when the A/C turns on, this is how Troyer has it setup. If you notice on the diagram there are two blocking diodes on the green line. The top one prevents current from the A/C wire from passing on the line to the second controller; the second one prevents current from passing to the A/C when SW3 (manual mode) is turned on.

I had to make one more edit. I was testing the circuits and all the functionality and realized the green wire (that goes to A/C) is a full override, i.e. it even turns on the fans when accessory is off. Therefore, I needed to put Relay1 and Relay2 directly inline of the output to the fan. This solved the problem.

Once again link to the post w/ image and description.

There is no diagram provided with the instructions, but in order to understand them, I drew up this diagram in Visio.

Here's the run down from the instructions. The fans are ground switched through the relay/thermistor combination provided by Troyer and directly connected to the battery's +12V, so...

1) Black wire from thermistor goes to ground.
2) Red Wire from thermistor goes to Fan ground (remember, fans are ground switched)
3) Yellow goes to accessory.
4) Green goes to A/C.
5) Last pair of wires connects to the probe, which goes into the radiator.

Troyer describes the green wire as an override wire. As I found out, it will even override if there is no accessory power. The circuit that I have posted, v6, is a complete and tested [with a multimeter] circuit.

Hopefully this answers your question.

They have changed the controllers since I purchased mine. Here is a link to the Derale site that shows the wiring instructions for the old kits. The latest Troyer kit, like yours, is using a different controller.

these kits are crazy expensive for what they are... can be peiced together for fraction of the cost...

Yes yes... join the club of the people who claim it can be done so cheaply. I've read it all. Fans and controllers from Summit are $335... group buy was $389, but comes with detailed instructions, all screws/wiring/loom/connectors needed and brackets. Not to mention the support Troyer offers. If I were to add in all the extras I would need to complete the install, I would be over $375 easily. Having everything in one neat package? Priceless.

Nice work on the diagrams. I have not recieved mine yet to read the install instructions so I ask. Any perticulare reason for the fuses being on the ground side of the fans?

for warranty sure.. but i can bet those fans re no diff then some that can be found on ebay... you can do this for roughly 100-150$ on your own complete...

to each their own though.. not claiming.. stating fact.. and plenty have done it.

You raise a valid point. I suspect that this is because the controller comes that way and it is easier to leave it that way. Unfortunately if the fan shorts out it will not protect the battery and could potentially lead to a fire. kuruption will most likely add one in his next rendition of the schematics.
