F150/Mustang 4.6L

hey everyone,
i have a 2005 STX with the 4.6L currently running a cold air and magnaflow exhaust. does anyone know if the performance products such as underdrive pulleys ect. that are available for the mustang 4.6L will work on the f150 4.6? are the blocks the same or have they changed since the 00-04 bracket for mustangs? any help would be great!

There are underdrive pulleys for both, but only looking up the application fits for those pulleys will tell you it will work on either engine. I know for sure that since the high end mustang block has 4-valve heads then there are many aftermarket products that WONT work for it AND the 3-valve F150 4.6l block such as cams and COPs.

The block itself may be the same, but that is most likely where the similarity ends. Best to investigate specifically for your engine when searching for mods to buy and install. Some may work, but many wont, for both. If online or printed catalogs aren't any help, call the manufacturer and inquire.

Not sure what you mean by this 00-04 bracket for mustangs.

I see that was your first post, welcome. Also see you are from Rochester, MN. Nice area of that state. Went to the Mayo Clinic some for my FIL, he had to go there for surgery.

Mustangs do not have 4-valve heads, they are 2 valve (96-04) and 3 valve (05-present). Only the Cobras have 4 valve heads.

As far as the underdrive pulleys go, you'd have to cross reference the part numbers to see. I'm not sure if they would work or not.

You have the Triton 4.6L V8, so no, its block is not the same as the mustang block which is suppose to be all aluminum. Your Triton is a cast iron block so similar displacement but in reality different motors.

Yes technically they are Mustangs, but there is a major difference....the motor. When the Cobra is a limited sub-set of the Mustang brand with a different motor, you need to specify the difference. The way your post read, all Mustangs have 4-valves so I was just trying to clear up the comments to the poster.

My Mustang came with 4 valve heads and it is not a Cobra lol.

Beside UD pullies are a waste, and have been known to cause oil pump failures in mod motors due to the oil pum gears working off of the crank. Add an UD pully or a piggy back pully system on the crank and it strays from the dampning charecteristics Ford spent time and money developing resulting in additional vibrations through the crank that play hell on the cast oil pump gears. This is not the days of 302's and 351's Ford gave these cars pretty small pullies as it is, you would be better served spending your money elsewhere looking for power.

You are correct, I did not even think of the Mach's. Totally my over-site, thanks for the correction.

And you are correct with the 3-valve comment on the regular mustangs. I made the assumption that since they were getting 300 HP out of the mustang engine vs the F150 4.6L Triton that it must have been the 4-valve assembly doing it since the Triton version had 3-valve assemblies. My bad.

SWEET!!

Sometimes I wonder just how far Ford would go if you custom ordered a truck with the Shelby engine built at the factory. Logic says they would never do it but then again $$$ talks and BS walks!
