Has anyone tried this yet?

Just wondering if anyone has tried to install the new 2009 Ford OEM unit in an earlier built model. They seem to have a lot of great features compared to the current 2008 Nav system.

Here are some of the specs from the ford website:
  1. The available voice-activated Navigation System provides a 10GB hard drive for storing photos, ripping entire CDs or just favorite tracks, and managing music with the Jukebox function. Watch DVDs when the vehicle is in Park.
  2. Built in Sirius module! The optional Navigation System offers even more travel information with available SIRIUS® Travel Link™ service (not available in Alaska and Hawaii; SIRIUS and Travel Link are registered trademarks of SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Inc.)

I believe that they are now being built by Clarion instead of Pioneer and they are true plug and play - no vehicle specific programming needed. They are supposed to be identical in size to the Pioneer model. The only difference I can see is that there are 4 plugs in back instead of 3. Maybe the fourth is for the integrated Sirius module?

If anyone has done this, I would like to hear how it was done!

i don't believe it is even possible to do that yet.... the only vehicle that has the 2009 system available at this time is the ford flex. i'm sure it could be done with a lot of time and money but i can assure you it wont be plug an play.

from what i have heard it is possible. I have the 08 nav system and have used the 09 system in a new escape. The 09 system is unbelievable compared to the earlier model; the image quality is outstanding. The different plugs on the back (as ive been told) are as follows: yellow/round=sirius antenna and the extra small square=backup camera interface.

DAN are you sure they dont need to be programmed? if not, im willing to be a test dummy and buy one.

SunDevil, I am not positive on the programming part. I have heard from one source that it did not, and another source that it is not compatible due to a can bus (not sure what this is) requirement that most models do not have. I think that these units are still too new and there is a lot of confusion on the compatibility with earlier models.

I have heard that these new units do not have power and you will need to add an amp to work.

As I get more details, I will update this post!

I don't need everything, just the navigation and radio to work. If we figure that much out, I'm in.

Question Spoke to two people who purchased on Ebay

Hey emailed a couple of folks who purchased the 09's on ebay. One loved i and said he was able to make it work in an 08 F-250. The other said he was unable to make it work in an 05 F-250. That being said, with enough time and money . . . well anything can be done. My guess is when available get the 09 wiring diagrams for an 09 F-250 or 09 Excursion or Expidition and determine the pin, wire layout. Then get your year Ford pin layout and match up where they can be matched up -- will take some time. Then everthing that doesn't match up, you'll have to come up with a solution for. For the complete sync ability you'll need the mic. antenna's and then pray that there isn't something else that just doesn't show up yet.
