Some things that I noted during the install:

1) Make sure that the antenna is pointed in the right direction. It's under the plastic dome. Mine was attached with two sided tape and was a little loose. I talked to BrandMotion about this and they said that current models have this glued down and can't move. My unit off of eBay must have been an older unit.

2) It does have a slot for Compac Flash memory, but since this unit has a 20 Gig HD, it's not enabled. So don't worry about having to get more memory for it.
Hey Meangene, Do you have a phone # for BrandMotion? I'd like to ask them a few questions. Thanks

Hey Vader btw you should just buy it. Look at this one on ebay. I've bought my tow mirrors from this seller and had no problems. This is cheap. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-f1...spagenameZWDVW

Nice find.

I'm still disappointed that I can use the OEM 07 HU w/Navigation.

I'm considering buying it but my Navman 520i works well for now.

Still Happy with the Brandmotion/Magellan GPS?

Hello Everyone,
I've put it off for six months or so since I got my truck, but now I'm back to considering buying the Brandmotion/Magellan GPS unit for our trucks. At the $595.00 price tag, it looks even better. So tell me this: It sounds as if adding the USB cable is a good idea. Have any updates been put out for the unit that anyone has been able to apply via the USB? And in the past year or so, is everyone still happy with the purchase? Or should I consider other options?

Thanks,
JSB

I have been running mine for awhile now and love it. I have the USB cable connected and updated the Magellan software for the addition of the Traffic Kit. One thing nobody mentions is that the Traffic Kit is not a direct bolt on. You have to make some modifications to the dash top pod to make it fit, cutting and gluing it back together. I would not recommend the Traffic Kit.

Magellan was supposed to come out with a map update CD in September, and then they changed it to October, now they just say SOON. I guess they got tired of updating their web site. When they do come out with a map upgrade, and let me tell ya - it's really needed, the USB cable will come in very handy. You will need a laptop as well.

I don't think they ever will. I've had mine since July of 06 and there has not been any yet. Why update something so outdated?
Now you can get these things for 300$ new on ebay. I don't see it being worth it for them to do an update.

jsb, it's a nice unit but in my area there is has been a lot of changes in the past year. Even when I got it a years ago it was ready for an update form some new roads and road shifts. Now there have been a lot of changes. For the lower cost it's at today it's still not a bad unit but if I had it to do over again I would go with the factory unit.

You still want map updates. You won't see updates for the software itself but the maps is necessary plus it is income.

I need the update and I'm tired of checking too.

Yeah, I think they will be charging around $100 for the CD. I don't what the hold up is but I don't think it's Magellan.

Almost bought one when I heard updates are coming out.....

I almost bought one last night. Between the low prices for the units on Ebay, and hearing that updates will be available next week, it seemed like a real deal. I even had my credit card out and ready to pull the trigger. But I read some reviews on the RoadMate 760, and they were really mixed.

I sent an email to Magellan yesterday asking about the RoadMate updates, (before I saw Whitecrystals response above), and late last night I got a response that said, "we might have updates for this unit, but are unable to promise that at this time". I've read in the reviews, and now agree that their support sucks. I've heard they have shipped their support over to India.

So all in all, the Brandmotion/Magellan unit really does look cool on the dash of our trucks, but that's about all the unit offers compared to technology here two years later.

I think I'll save my pennies and buy a Garmin 750 or 760.
Good luck. I hope the updates do come out for your Brandmotion units.
JSB
