Anyone in the Omaha Nebraska area?
Does anyone have any experience in car pc's? I've seen some that have a multimedia touch screen with buttons for radio, nav, pc and etc... But then when you switch over to pc mode it runs windows xp. I've tried looking to see if it requires a special operating system or if windows xp is on the computer and the multimedia is on the touch screen radio. Any ideas?
I think they just have XP built into them, my brother was talking about doing this to his car at one point but never did. I believe it just has a hard drive and everything else with it. If you look at the new mini laptops I don't see why they couldn't do it on a HU if they can run it on those things.
a carputer is just like a regular computer that is put on the head unit display. You would have to have some kind of a hub to do both the back up camera and computer, or buy a hu that has more then two aux video inputs.

Thanks! It took a little longer than I wanted. I got one amp mounted, played with the second. I need to decide what to do about the rear wall "carpet". I either need to trim it, or remove it all together. I'm sure the amps need to breathe. And what's with the vents on the rear wall??

second that it looks good and would be helpful...i think it would take me some time to get used to the hitch being off centered but overall it looks good
im confused and this is pry a stupid question, but if the camera is installed to the left of the hitch, how does the hitch show up in the left part of the camera screen??

Looks good, now I will have to order one and add that to my list of things to do. Those vents are there as JD said to let the excess pressure vent out of the cab. If you are going to be sound dampening then you will want to seal them up. That is what lets in the majority of the road noise.
Well I started to feel chitty late saturday so I did not get a lot accomplished with my build. However with cory's help I did manage to get the speaker pods covered with 2 layers of 10 oz mat on top of my felt layer. I am now going to be using body filler to smooth them out. The I will give it a final "milk shake" layer and sand to a glass like finish.
This is where I am needing your guys input. I am considering painting them plus all the wood grain in the truck (4 door panels and center console) with the Corvetter ZR1 Ghost Metallic Gray (something like that) or something along those lines. Since the truck's interior is mainly tan and gray I feel that the wood grain while looks nice also looks out of place. Thoughts, suggestions, comments I would love the input now before I do something that could potently cost me a few bucks to replace door panels.

You might want to try to contact this memer - see if he is still around. I remember he had some sort of computer installed in his F150 that had xp on it I believe.

The lifted 2005 charcoal gray F-150 from Pro-Tint came back in today for some work. He has a reverse camera system too. You guys are going to have to help me out when I'm ready for that stage of my truck's modifications. The more I think about it, the more handy it would be to have. Plus, I've always wanted an in-dash dvd/touch screen/nav unit. I'm going to tell him about our site here and hopefully we might see him online sooner or later. Very nice guy - and even nicer truck!

ya he has a good looking truck. And there really is nothing to the back up camera install, I am willing to be the toughest part is routing the wire to the back. But hopefully he will join up
