I probably won't worry so much about texture as just filling in gaps. I think painting the gap area a flat black would help camoflauge it some more.

Ya that wouldn't be so bad, I guess you could find some vinyl that matched texture and after you fiberglass you could use that to wrap your area to get the same texture. I would have to do some playing to see if it could be done but I think it would be doable.

How is fixing that gap coming along?

And I broke down and ordered a Hobart Ironman 230 welder so I now have a serious welder that can handle 1/2" steel in a single pass. If you guys ever need some welding done just let me know.

And the smoker has been on hold for a few weeks but hoping to get some more work done on it soon.

I think if I re-do the mounting kit, it will work out. Been really enjoying this head unit!

1/2" steel? Holy crap!

Sweet, and those mounting kits work out pretty good just a little tricky at times.

hindsight being 20/20, when I was test fitting, I didn't think about the trim bezel. I was just looking at the mounting depth from the sub-dash. Live and learn, I didn't have to think about it with previous single din installs. My back up camera seems a little flakey at times, seems too dim. Might be a poor connection from the camera and power splice in the back. Other times it's bright and looks great. I will do some more tinkering with it.

I would definitely check connections it sounds like a poor connection probably power, but could easily be your inputs as well.

Remounted my HU today. Tell me what you think. I wish I had an option for the mounting bracket in between this and the previous way i mounted it. This sticks out about half an inch, previously it was flush. I'm not sure which is better.

05, Sweet tires!!

hmm that is weird that they stick that far out like that on the mounting kit. Not sure which one looks better either.

The mounting kit is basically some thin plastic with a wedge built into it that holds it in place, kind of like an electrical harness connection. Pretty cheesy. It's a Metra kit. I may have to see if I can try to find something to work to make my own kit. Drill holes in whatever material I find to match the head unit mounting holes, and see if it's better. My impressions are that I like the 1st way it mounted better. It sticks out over my Hvac controls, and looks chunky sticking out there.

I think it looks pretty inviting to thieves sticking out like that as well.

I would definitely either figure something out on my own or go back to the other kit.
