Chevy SS Regular Cab
Aluminum heads
Aluminum heads have two main advantages (vs cast iron):
1. Lighter weight
2. Better heat transfer
Disadvantages:
1. Higher cost
2. More likely to have durability problems - warping or stripped out spark plug holes
Airflow depends on geometry and surface finish.
I will reserve judgment on the Chevy truck until they actually PUT IT IN PRODUCTION. I hope they do – it would likely cause Ford to tweak the Lightning! Wouldn’t a horsepower war be fun?

Look at the latest Hot Rod mag on pg 18 and look at this site.

Manual Steering
Only reason it has power doors and locks is because it would cost more to take them off.
~ $23,000(from Hot Rod mag)
The single cab version WILL NOT be AWD!!

I do like the looks of that truck,, if it was 23K,,, then yes I would trade the L in,, especially with 0% financing on that puppy
she would not need to be awd for me to buy it,, hell i'm used to wheelspin and would miss it if it went away. 23K does seem pretty darn cheap when you think about what you are getting, definately needs interior work, but that could be customized on my own, wouldn't have to worry about interior compression ratios in order to install leather seats?? I hope they do make it, I hope it is that cheap, and I hope ford tweaks their lightning, without raising the cost of this puppy like i'm sure we all have feelings they will.

It looks just OK. I don't realy like the way the new Chevys look anyway. But they sure drive nice and feel fast compared to a regular F150.
I like the Lightning because it is semi luxury inside and hauls butt.
I don't care how much horsepower it makes, there is nothing like driving a supercharged vehicle.
I wouldn't buy one mainly because I am to spoiled by power steering and automatic transmissions. I don't want to shift anything bigger than a compact car.
Just my .02

6.6 or 6.0
I was at SEMA yesterday. I read 6.6 on the plaque, and asked a chevy rep about it. he said it was a bored and stroked 6.0 block. It was producing 395 hp n/a in the SS, and they had a concept corvette with the 6.6 producing 425 hp n/a.
on edit: there was two trucks there - an SS and an SST. the SS had a 6.0 at 345 hp. it was a 4 door. The SST had the 6.6 at 395 hp, and it was a regular cab. It's nose was also shortened 4 inches, and the bed was 6 inches shorter than a normal short bed/ reg cab chevy.

Boy, you guys are easy...... believing a GM Concept vehicle again.
If the SEMA truck has the 395hp 6.6, then it is the same old concept that they have shown around forever. All they did is put the new body on it....... Big whoop.
Remember, the SSR was supposed to have a 395hp 6.6....... what did it end up with, the 285hp 5.3. The SSR was supposed to weigh about 3700lbs and cost around $30K. It will be 4500lbs and cost around $40K in reality. The SS Silverado was supposed to have 395+ hp (depending on what version of concept shown), it has a normal 345hp Escalade engine. It was supposed to be around Lightning price and weight, and ends up 5300lbs and $40K.
Thus, I don't think I would be holding my breath for a standard cab SS with a 395hp 6.6L, manual trans, suspension upgrades, wheel and tire upgrades, bench seat and no carpet for $23K.
What I would venture to guess about would be a standard cab SS with the 345hp Escalade engine, automatic, cloth buckets and carpet, for about $30K.
I just don't see a $16K base price difference in the same family of performance vehicles.
