Living in Boston we have one of the higest insurance rates in the country. When I first bought my Cobra I was paying $3200 per year for insurance. VERY EXPENSIVE!!!! When I turned 25 last year it dropped to $2200. I checked with my insurance company and for the Lightning it will be $1700. Pretty sad considering the L is a 2002 and the Cobra is a 96.

The best mod would be to take some sort of driver training course, and I don't mean the BS drivers ed course you take at your high school that just teaches you how to parallel park. I mean a real drivers course.

I have to agree with some of the others that said it is irresponsible of your mom to get you a lightning when your only 16. That being said if I had an opportunity like that..I sure as hell wouldn't be looking to turn it away.

Don't worry about making your insanely fast truck faster right now, worry about making yourself a decent driver.

Thumbs up

M_SVT200,

Congratulations. In 1964, my mom bought her oldest son a 12.90 sec Ford, One of the fastest cars in my high school. Bless her heart, mom placed so much trust in me to do the right things. Yes I raced, alot, strip and street. I was fortunate and never hurt anyone.

There is one piece of advice I would give myself if I could go back in time, take a comprehensive defensive driving course. One of the first classes given to new employees of the fire department I work for. Can't begin to name the number of times I prevented incidents from happening by just being aware.

Take care, enjoy your L to the max, there are plenty of willing helpers on this and other forums, just ask and we will give what we can.
