What helmets does everyone use??? help
I need to buy a helmet for the track but I don't know what to buy. Is there anything I should avoid? Any brands that you recommend? All I know is that I'll probably need an XL. As you can tell, I've never had to buy one before. Thanks in advance for any help.
Been a while for me too. I got one kicking around from my old NOS Kawi 1000 but I'm not sure if it's DOT "or" Snell Approved. What's required at the track ??? I know DOT is the lower rating,
the other one is a better rating, it's Snell Right ???? Been a while.

Helmet rating depends on the track you run at. My track requires a snell 90 or newer rating. I would check with the track before buying.
I got a HJC CL-5 helmet at:

They have a big selection of different brands at good prices. I went to a few shops and tried on various brands and sizes before ordering so I knew it would fit. even comes in Silver to match my truck.....JR

Depends on the track you're at. At our local 1/4-mile track I can just throw a motocross helmet in the passenger seat and they don't bat an eye. At out local 1/8-mile track I've never brought a helmet and usually wear cotton shorts and sandals - they just don't give a ****.
Some tracks may check more strictly, though.

All depends on the value you place on your cranial contents, or something.

I use a G-Force helmet. G-Force is a new company that's making all safety equipment. The stuff is made overseas, but it's really nice quality, and doesn't cost a fortune. I got mine from Jegs for $130. While some tracks just want to see something on your head, if you go to an actual event like NMRA, the tech inspectors will not pass anything that's not up to the new rules, which currently is M00/SA00 approved. Most motorcycle helmets and SN90 helmets don't cut it for NHRA legal helmets anymore.
I went with a Beiffe Predator helmet.
Advice:
- if you think you will do anything more then just 1/4 racing, get an SA helmet. He!! get an SA helmet anyway.
-go to stores near you and try on the helmet. It may be cheaper to order over the internet, but it's best when you know *exactly* what you are getting.
- don't set a price limit, it's you're head and worth protecting. You may find a good one for cheap, or you may not.
