I took my old style 2lb off about 1 month ago. Didn't strip anythng. In fact I still have the original spindle part. When i took mine off I used a 24" pipe wrench on the cneter of the pulley and it broke free without a problem. I didn't unscrew the pulley off but then decided to get the center spindle off. I used a torque wrench(Didn't have a breaker bar) and a come along attached to part of the frame. I slowly tightened it and it popped. Maybe the key was going at it slowly and not yanking on it. Who knows. I know when I put on the new pulley I had antiseize flowing out the threads when I tighted it down.

Ow!!! I was planning to possibly install an interchangeable 4lb later on when I had time, but after seeing all the difficulty with actually removing them, I might have to take a step back until something a little more reliable is manufactured. This isnt a flame to any of the vendors, Im just a little cautious of getting that warranty voided when I have to tow it back because I cant get it off or have problems.

"I had to change my old #2 out last week. I was assisting a friend who knows more about these caged pullies than myself. When we tried to remove the fan we found that we were not able to get it to come off. I had JDM install the pulley and they torqued that fan on there so good that we couldnt get it off. Well in a way this "

Sam: The fan doesn't need to be taken off for either removing the OEM pulley or any tuner pulley. Why bother?

The reasoning was that we could get the breaker bar and put a long pipe over it to get more leverage. With the fan out of the way it would just be easier to go from the top with leverage in mind. Removing the pulley from below forced us to use a shorter breaker bar since we couldnt jack the truck up that high. We were just doing the best with what we had and it worked out I guess.

Actually a few of us were talkin on #ford on the undernet, and think we know why they are so hard to remove. The metal used on these aftermarket ones is VERY VERY soft.

The threads were a tad rough on the hub, soo i am thinking if it was hit with a wire wheel to smooth it out before hand it would probably make it easier to remove.

The other piece is that the metal on these hubs needs to be made of a harder metal. When it gets tightend down by the motor i am think its deforming it a tad and makin it lock on there.

One other piece is when your 'yanking' on it with the softer metal the metal is absorbing the shock vs breaking the threads loose. Think of it as a long extension , on a bolt, the metal twists and doesn't allow you to get the torq on there you should. A harder metal would not twist and hit the threads immediately.

Just a few ideas though...

Glad to see you guys got that damn pulley off My JDM pulley wasn't nearly that hard to get off, I was contemplating putting it back on in time for this weekend but I doubt I'll have time Saturday morning. Now just get your truck fixed Cliff in time for Car Wars this weekend! See you in a few!
