Well, I finally removed the pulley. I'm sure this job would be easier if you have the correct tools. I only had a 1/2" matco breaker bar, Craftsman 3/4" breaker bar, 2 3/4 inch socket, Big pipe wrench, and the engine was out of the truck...

Will I reuse the caged pulley? I don't know. It was hard to remove, it mighjt/might not be worth it. You decide.

I had to change my old #2 out last week. I was assisting a friend who knows more about these caged pullies than myself. When we tried to remove the fan we found that we were not able to get it to come off. I had JDM install the pulley and they torqued that fan on there so good that we couldnt get it off. Well in a way this was a blessing I think.

What we decided to do was jack the front of the truck up and use a 3 foot breaker bar from below. I got under the truck and put both feet on the frame, had heavy duty gloves on and used my legs, back, arms, and pretty much every other muscle to get it to break loose. It was not bad using this method, the pulley was not harmed at all. The only thing that was harmed was my head, when that pulley came loose my head flew into the passenger tire! OW! I almost broke the trans strap we had to use to lock everything down.

I think this method might work better since when trying to go from the top you can only put as much presure on the pulley as you weigh. From under the truck you can use your legs against the frame which will give you much more force than your weight!

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Many thanks to Autothrottle/Mark for his help and knowledge on getting that pulley off!!!

2 - 250 # guys pulling for all their worth ... How many Footpounds is that?

Good news is, we got the pulley off after 8 hours of work.

Bad news is the shaft is STILL on there ... and REALLY stuck ...

So let me see... I post a simple statement and I get you two(SVT_KY and easterisland) taking strong defense claiming a "hate-thread" and a "Bash Fest"? Whats the deal? Is it that difficult just simply consider the post as added input, something to ponder perhaps? Do you view every post on here as a potential flame, whether its aimed at you or not? Perhaps I am out of my league here and this forum is for "Experts" only. People looking to learn something need not apply? Especially you easterisland, what makes you think you are so high and mighty that you can try to flame me with your little cut and pase in your previous post? Do you think you are one of the fore mentioned experts?????????

It is something to ponder but jim is adaquatly addressing the problem, soo lets leave it as a 'how-to'

Btw we got it off!!! a sawzaw, dremel, drill bits, and removing teh dampner. CLiff will post the pics later. Stock pulley is now on for troubleshooting.

Thanks for all the input guys, and if anyone has a TRUELY stubborn one i think cliff and I can help =)

Well hell's bells. I might have gotten lucky. I am about 220 and I gave it everything I had.

Its not just the JDM caged pulley thats a Bitch to get off its also the Stock Caged pulley. When i was at JDM's and they were trying to take off my stock pulley, which the dealer had put on when they did work on my truck, they couldnt get that bitch to budge. So they took it off the way Doug mentioned by taking off the 3 screws. So it isnt only the JDM pulley. Any guess as to why the caged pulleys get so damn tight on there

Because ALL the caged pulleys thread into the dampner and get TIGHTER as the engine rotates..

well the caged pulleys are always tightening themselves. From what i could tell on this one, the threads were not very smooth, and i am sure thats what did it. I would say if you took a wire wheel, to these to smooth um out a bit it would be a-ok.
