IMPORTANT !!! Please help !!!

I called SVT to ask if they had any recall on the cracked
foglamp lenses. They said no, but it should be covered
under warranty for the plastic cracking due to temp.

Now the interesting part.

They said the ONLY way FORD will address the problem
with an engineering change is if they get a flood of
warranty claims to highlight the problem.

I am on my second set of lense replacement (7000 miles)
and I told the service writer to just order 6 lenses so I
wouldn't have to wait for the parts when they crack ...

For those that haven't looked yet, the cracks start out as
a bunch of hairline cracks that get worse til the whole lense
looks "Shattered"

So if you have cracks, let's get Ford aware of the problem,
and maybe we can go back to REAL glass lenses the
way the '00's have. (Prolly all to save a half a buck!)

This is old news. From '87 up on the GT Mustangs the fog lamps have always cracked.

Ford will not recall, as it's not a safety concern. Don't hope for it, don't even think it. I know, it sux, sorry!

Anyhoo, Happy 4th!

Exclamation a pain in the **** !!

I fought the dealership tooth and nail because they claimed it was from 'road debris'. They went ahead and replaced them; but said they wouldn't do it again.

guess I'll have to find myself a new dealership to work with?

I have one of my two new ones cracked. We'll see what happens when I go to another dealership.

I have always used PIAA

My PIAAs in the PIAA airdam have not cracked from heat.
The one that I lost was due to a stone, and I did not have the grille on it. Swap the lense, rememebered to put the grille back on, now I have not even had a stone crack in over 1 year.
This is Chicago so we have gravel truck season, and salt truck season around here.
Just to answer the question about the aftermarkets.
The 520s are 16" off the ground at center, to give you an idea of where they are if you don't know the look of the PIAA airdam.h

Mine "crackled" so you could tell it wasn't "road debris".
Now that I have "established" the cause, they seem
ready to continue ordering them for me til the warranty
runs out ....'

I just had pass side fog lamp replaced. I have 20 more days on warranty. They replaced it no problem (in fact had it in stock, and put it in while I waited for 20 min) (really suprised abou that).

I plan on not using the lights in rain and cold weather now, since I have heard the cracking happens when the cold water/weather hits the hot lamp/glass.

Crappy way to fix it, but that's what youdo when you don't have warranty anymore.

AN fyi,

The thicker GLASS lenses do not do the same thing. yes a large road debris will crack them, but at 24k miles i have hte original set in there. My mustang (88) still has its original set, my 93 mustang had its original set, the 91 with 130k miles had its original set.

What cliff its talkin about is definitly heat related. The plastic just doesnt seem to be holding up. So i would definitly encourage you all to take them to the dealer and start getting a move on this. I have put off the clear lenses for htat very reason.
