I don't own an L, but I feel your pain.

There were just over 8000 2000 Harley Davidson trucks made. I purchased one, and the dealer did a great job detailing the truck after I bought it as part of their dealer committment. So when I discovered garbage in the paint (all over) and that the paint on the rear wheel-well of my truck was flaking off, I was pretty upset. This truck came with promises of quality and the looks said attitude. When I took it back to the dealer, he recommended that I not break the factory paint, because it's hard to get it to match right again.
When I told him that the paint was obviously already "broken" especially on my rear fender, he said that I must've used too harsh of a wheel cleaner or tire shine, and that it must've ate through the paint. When I explained that I hadn't even washed the car yet, and that the last people to touch it were their detail boys, he called me a liar.

I went to the service manager, who saw it my way. I had less than 100 miles on the truck when I noticed the problem. What's worse, is that the truck I test drove wasn't the one I was sold. They simply pulled one of the three they had on the lot, and I'm guessing it's because somebody noticed this problem. To make a longer story shut, he took care of me. The entire rear fender was repainted, and they stripped the clear coat off the truck and re-did that too (taking care of most, if not all the garbage in the paint). For my inconvience, he threw in a Line-X spray-on, and I left happy.

Despite it all, I would buy another truck from Ford. I just hope they realize that brand loyalty is only a portion of the business, attracting new customers can be kind of hard when your quality woes are on display.

My Lightning has orange peel in the paint. I'm afraid to have a dealer mess with it.

Well my dealer finally agreed to repaint my front bumper
where they drilled two holes for the license plate that
declared "I got a GREAT DEAL at Paul Miller Ford".

Now I am wondering if I shoulda kept pushing for the
replacement bumper.

Funny story ... When I talked to the Customer Satisfaction
guy he told me:

"HJust wait til the next red lightning comes in and I'll trade
the bumper out for you!"

I went like "Hell no you won't ... I wouldn't DO that to
another Lightning owner, and I'm shocked you would suggest it!"

"whatever, d00d ... Just trying to make you happy."

So, can the paint shoppe do a great job (factory like)
on patching and painting? What's y'all's experience with
Ford body shops?

Cliff
