Quality is Job ONE? or Job NONE?
Well, I am kinda disappointed in the "Fit and Finish"
on the '02. Unfortunately, I didn't notice a lot of it
until Crazyone started pointing it out. (Thanks!)
The ground effects on the passenger side door area
is falling off. I took it back to the shop and they took
about an hour of struggling with it to get the damn buttons
to stay in. Seems the holes are drilled wrong or somwthing.
It also is about 3/4" higher / lower than the ground effect
over the tailpipes.
On the drivers side door step, someone FORCED the
grey panel back down without the pegs being aligned
and made nice little "white" spots on the grey plastic
trim piece.
Failure to paint areas that should be painted ...
Fender well lasered for the air intake ... UGLY JAGGED HOLE
Glove Compartment door hinge rusting
Underneath is a total mess ... nothing painted and rusting already ....
Anyone else see these kinda problems?

I had a problem with the ground effect right infront of the driver side door on my '02. Repositioned it myself though.
Took the front grill apart to put my billet one in and found about ten of those plastic push pins on the inner liner(s) that weren't even in the holes they were destined for. I took the time and put them all in the right spots. That was just someone on the assembly line being LAZY!
The thing that pisses me off the most is how far my bed is out of alignment from the cab. Its about an inch too far to one side.
Drives me nuts to look at it!! It will go back to the dealer for the bed being out of alignment.

Get your bed fixed soon! Or you will be line mine:
What i don't like is the rear seal/molding on the rear window being fubar. one side fits completly differant from the other. (both the old one, and now the new one they installed) the seal is sticking halfway out of the groove and is pinched between the window and cab. (looks ****ty!)
Transmission already had problems and needed repair, i got this funky rattle slightly moving, i got the 'marbles' with no load on motor at 3-3500(driving)
front/rear windows leaked.
Rear end is 'wet' soo i think its leaking now
Drivers seat bottom had to be replaced as it was wearing the top cover, and spewing foam out from under my seat.
Brakes squeal (and aparently its not fixable 'they all do that')
The Clunk
You name a lightning problem and i had it or still have it. (waiting to see a rod peek through the pan)

PS i just need to pay it down enough to get me a 03 =) and hopefully i'll get a 'good' one.

My L hasn't been driven much, and sits in a storage room 99% of the time, and already has an orchestra of squeaks and rattles coming from the plastic panels behind the seats. Two little plastic rivets have already broken off, and who knows when more will pop out. I agree about the rust underneath; it's only been in the rain twice, but lots of parts are rusting. And my horns sound wimpy too. The rear window seal is peeking out, but no leaks there so far. The right fog lamp was loose when I got home from the showroom. But I still love the blower whine
my bed was shifted all the way forward and off to that side
I couldn't get even 1 finger in between there. I hit a VERY sharp speed bump at 5mph. heard a bang found it next day when i was washing it.
Sooo just check it out, try and put your hand in between bed and cab at both front corners...you might be surprised at what you find. Havne't found one yet that is straight...

After I read this post, I went to look at my bed, and it's out of line..............
That's just great, but I guess i'll have the dealer look at it when i'm having the alignment redone since my truck is pulling to the side(still waiting on cam kit to come in). The bed is much farther away on the passenger side......

Guess I'm Lucky
The only problem I have had is the rocker panel body skirts did get loose. I went to a body shop and got some of those plastic push in clips with the screw head in them.
I changed them all out the ford ones shaped like a arrow head suck they are not long enough to reach into the metal of the rocker panel. The plastic ones are longer and now the ground effects are tight up on the rocker quick fix takes like ten min a side.
The other problems you guys got I hope I don't get only 3500 miles on it, but owned since Feb.
I also switched to full synthetic after 800 miles and no strange noises or problems

No biggie.

vehicles, and DETAILS should matter. Besides, if nobody
ever lets FORD know about it, how are they gonna change?
Was your 'vette poorly detailed also? Hmmmmm...... ???

Why is that fact that box is unpainted a big deal ? If they are alll the same then that is what you should expect on yours...
I personally dont want to pay more for the truck to pay for the steering box to be painted. I also dont want to pay for the frame and other variuos under body parts to be painted. There is no need for that.
If you want a show truck buy a brand new lightning and send it off to a show car detailer and pay them $20k or so to do a frame off resto and polish and paint everything....
These are mass produced on an assembly line. There will be variances...

bed to cab alignment
FYI: Bed-to-cab alignment problems are common on all Ford Trucks - worldwide. And Ford is aware of this. It's often not noticeable, unless you look for it. Usually the owners who see most quickly, are those "towing", and use their mirrors a lot.
I assisted on a project at Ford 2 years ago, for the F250 Model to determine the causes of this, and construct better assembly line alignment proccesses and devices to improve this condition. Although after about 6 months of investigations, we were able to improve the condition somewhat, we didn't totally eliminate the inherent assembly process variations.
