I'm sorry. It's just that thrifty people........well, they're just cheap. Most can do or find anything cheaper than dirt. Kinda like a "McGuyver". They could make anything out of nothing.
Now, unwind your shorts.
okay.....for all the idiots.......... I infact have a set of Herbs washers in my LH lower control arm..........They were like 50 bucks or so.......I paid my money for the washers......I just think you guys are harsh on DL when hes trying to make a stronger product for less price...........Its a free country.......last time I checked.....
Must be so much more fun to get off topic and bash each other rather than discuss the subject at hand....
My $0.02 in this economy people have come to expect Walmart prices for everything... They dont like Walmart Quality but they think every one is making 500,000 of X and therefore can afford to sell em cheaper... They dont know that the tooling to make 500,000 and make em cheap costs $100,000.... Ok my example got off on a tangent but you get the idea...
GET the thread BACK ON TOPIC or ILL CLOSE IT
Doug
PS- Thanks to all you guys who arent suppoorting vendors and who didnt post contact info or prices... Appreciate it...

Ya know... Lowe's and Home Depot sell washers for something like $0.02/each... hmmm
BTW, access to CNC machines are not a problem for DL. I've spoken to a buddy (mutual friend to DL as well) that OWNS a machine/milling shop (seven CNC machines). His cost per estimate was way low enough to make more than enough for lunch money. "Go get um DL!"

I thought that I would chime in on the price.Since I am a shop owner and am looking at buying a well maintained CNC but very used its about 14 yrs old and the cost of it is OVER 19,000 bucks NOW tell me how many washers it would take to pay for it !they make the washers to HELP fellow owners the cost has to include the equipment maintance and pay the guy to program it and tooling. That is why I feel the cost is justified.Stan
Oh I forgot I could make them on a mill it would only take me about an .5 hr to make one.

I agree with the other post's that thought it was the best 50$ spent on a mod. I had no trouble coughing up the cash, and the install was a breeze. You know, Herb could of only made one off's for his own truck, and we'd still be hating this ckunk thing. I don't know, maybe it's just me??
I'm not sure why you guys need/want stainless steel washers, I understand the complaint about money, but I already answered that one. If I'm going to stop what I'm doing to make a bag full of washers for Herb it ain't gonna be for free, but if he sold enough of them (wich he doesn't) then of course they would be cheaper.
Now about the stainless. The washer is held captive in the frame with a bolt running thru it. The washer has no shearing forces on it, it is in compression. The bottom line is an aluminum washer would probably work just fine. The only reason I didn't make them out of aluminum is that the bolt threads would eat at them a little over time. I could make them out of tungsten if you wanted me to, but there is know need. If you guys feel the need to big deal some of your friends.......tell them they are made out of depleted unobtainium or something. I mean with that and a set of iridium spark plugs.....hell your all set....right
The first few washers I made were out of stainless, but I used a different method and the part was easier to hold on to. When I found out I had to make them a little faster then I had to use a material that was easier to cut. Stainless was out of the question, its way to hard on tools and you just plain have to slow down. The CNC mill that I have access to, has a 3 axis CNC control on it and it is very handy but it is not a real CNC mill. Its more like an oversize bridgeport, there is no coolant recovery or containment, so I run my tools dry. You cant do that with stainless and make any time. Also, all speed changes and tool changes are made by hand, so this process keeps you real busy to say the least. I made the washer out of leaded mild steel because it was strong enough to do the job and it fits my machining capabilities. Like I said, I work for a tool shop not a production job shop.
Hope this answers some questions

Dale, I just sent Herb an email about a Ford dealer that wants to buy a lot of washers. Please contact me for more info or check with Herb for my email.

OK,
Tuner wars into washers wars, pretty funny. Well, I'm still tossing it around. I know it's not a get rich scheme. I'm not doing it for the money. I'll make a little bit, but not that much for my time.
There is a TSB from Ford to replace the washers with the Ford Washers. I figured if more people knew there was a TSB to pay to install them, then more people would want them. My local dealer installed mine and didn't have a problem with using mine instead of the Ford washers.
I'm not going to make that much off the washers and it would help my fellow L owners save about $20.00 bucks a set.
Intead of a tuner price war, were having a washer war. It's nothing for me to have them made out of whatever material we(us L owners) choose is best for the next generation washer clunk fix...
$35.00 was a fair price, $50.00 is way too much. I agree with Bad as L, I don't think aluminum will hold up, I feel better using a different type material.
I can have a 100 sets made in a matter of weeks maybe sooner for a very good price. Walmart has nothing to do with it, It's called nobody has a monopoly anymore for to long.
Stan, I am paying a local shop owner to make them, what's wrong with another person selling washers. Why should one person have a monopoly? You have never gotten anything and decided to make them yourself customized how you want it?
Some of you guys amaze me sometimes on here. Let me know who all wants a set.

I have a good idea :
Why don't you try to make pulleys and chips for next to nothing ?
Then go on to all other L mods & accessories.
"DL's almost as good as, but always cheaper, L parts".
Sorry I can't help you, but I already have Herbs washers.
Get ready for a lesson on internet lingo & selling.
"I may, might, probably, could possibly, be interested". or "You shoulda got ahold of me 6 mos. ago, I'd of bought that".
Good luck. You are brave & it will be a bumpy road.
You should be a little nervous with all the lawsuits these days, and product liability. Carry on with those broad shoulders.

If I make the clunk fix washers, They will be differnet than Herbs.
My washers will be different, so your lawsuit stuff is bull. I'm not going to make mine "JUST LIKE HERBS". They will be differnet. So I don't copy Herbs.
Hey '01ArrestMeRed,
You people that sue for anything nowdays is funny also, you can't make the money it yourself, you try to take the easier way to get more money. Even Congress is taking a stand on all the bull**** lawsuits.
Good luck. You are brave & it will be a bumpy road. Whatever, I'm lowering the price because I can make a product as good or better and I catch a little hell from it, funny...
I'll leave the cheaper price on other L parts up to Lightning Force Performance. Nobody gives him hell for selling his products, they are great products like the other tuners.
If Herb wasn't making so much money from selling them, he wouldn't care if I was making my own type washers and selling them. Let's do the math, 220 set at $30.00 each set profit maybe more. $6,600 for sending 220 sets in the mail isn't to bad.
Maybe Herb will lower his price back to $35.00?
Some of you guys amaze me sometimes on here. (Stan this wasn't directed at you).
So what, I want to make and sell some clunk fix washers, you know this isn't a communist country we live in.
If you want to pay $50.00 then buy Herb's to fix your clunk. If you want to pay less to fix your clunk, then buy them from me. Would that be OK?
Who would think, I didn't know there would be such a big deal about someone else making the clunk fix washers.
I'm not attacking Herb personally, I think he is a nice guy. Just going up from $35.00 to $50.00 bucks kind of yanked my chain, so I checked around about the cost of making my own washers to fix the clunk.

Wait a minute easterisland:
This is why I welded mine. I still don't understand why everyone doesn't do the same. [/QUOTE]
You can't post this, this could kill my new business idea. Darn I may go out of business before I get started. It will work and keep the washer from moving. You can't post this here.
My attorney will be calling you soon, yeah right.
