Wink I got stainless in my truck

Well since Herb hasn't said anything, I think I will have some fun with this.

I have stainless washers in my truck and so does Herb.....cause I'm the guy that designed and machined everyone of the cotten pickin things. It was Herbs idea to try and sell the washers on the net.

DL.....if you think this is a get rich quick deal.....think again. We have only sold some where around 220 sets of washers since we started over a year and a half ago. What that amounts to is that the washer deal has given me a Herb freakin lunch money for a year and a half. A standard f150 has the same slot that we have in the frame, but only a lightning has the clunck problem, I'm sure its because of the big tires and brakes. Anyway it seems to be a limited market.

DL....here's the deal.....I hate clunck washers.....I am a Tool Maker not a production machinist, and quite fankly those things are a pain in my *** for the money that I see out of them.

ON THE OTHER HAND......right now I am sitting about 15 feet away from a row of small CNC mills and I could have one of them turning out washers in about a half hour.......in other words, you cant make them as cheap as I can....PERIOD.
There, that ought to stir things up
Dale

Well, Bad as L, I can certainly sympathise with you. Everyone always thinks they can make something cheaper, and still sell it at a profit.

Case in point, me and my husband started a side business of building indestructible nerf bars/rock sliders for Explorers. There is about $100-$120 in materials in each set and we sell them for $300. There is a post on Explorer.com for them, and people keep coming in and showing other peoples work, ones they have built, or what they would like to build. Everyone thinks they can build better ones than mine for less money....... yet everyone who has had a custom set built, that are close to the strength of mine has spent $700-800. Nobody remembers that you have to go purchase the materials (we have to go 180 miles). They forget about the fact that we had to buy a good chop saw, angle grinder, drill bits, magnets, welding rod, saw blades, etc. They don't think about the fact that it takes the two of us over 10 hours to build a set (he cuts and welds, I do the engineering, set-up of welds, measuring, and drilling).

After all of this headache, we are seriously thinking about stopping this. We make little money for a big headache, and all we get, other than the few thank yous is "_______? can build something better for less money."

And people wonder why so few parts are made for some vehicles. Maybe if people appreciated the work that goes into these projects (remember, we are not large companies with large resources....... we have to do this around our auto repair and towing), more people would build things.

Sorry for the rant, but it gets old.

I think it was the best $50 I spent on my truck. Beats the he!! out of unnecessary buying of F1's and constant frontend alignments.

Ummmmm........Hey slick........You're whining about $35-$50 ? I'm going to go out on a limb, and guess that you don't have a line-lock, as I see brake lights illuminated. Hmmmm.......... I wonder how many $$$ you pi$$ed away on your wasted F1's, brake pads, rotors, axle seals, etc. ? Yeah, you really make alot of sense. LOL
