384 rwhp / 485 trq.....1/4 mile times

Hey fellas, my truck with 366 rwhp / 438 trq (SAE Corrected) was running 13.7's @ 101 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I was expecting my times to be 13.4-13.5? Now I've upgraded and the truck has 384 / 485 and I'll still probably be in the 13's, what gives. Is the elevation that much of a deal, is LVMS that slow?
My r/t's were all .5xx and my 60' times were all 2.0x??? Looks like I'm gonna need more power just to crack 12's.

Are there any other Lightning owners down here in Vegas? What are your experiences. There was a 2002 running 14.2's all day, it was stock except for the Magnaflow muffler.

Thanks for ay input.

Altitude and heat will kill your 1/4 times. Lose as much weight off the truck as you can.

Don't get wrapped up in comparing dyno readings to track times. Really the only thing a dyno is good for is comparing gains on mods from one point to another and tuning.

Track times depend on lots of other things...traction / suspension / tires, weather / elevation / humidity, driver, track conditions, vehicle weight, etc, etc, etc...

Work on your 60' times first.

sinister,

It is not your truck, but the altitude of the track and the temp. I haven't run mine yet, but my buddy ran his 99' ss at the track all the time. If you take it down to sea level, it will knock off at least .4 seconds. I wouldn't worry because that is pretty good las vegas times. What year and color do you have? I might have to head out to the track with you and we could run ...

Also the forced induction vehicles are hit the hardest with the high temp and high altitude...

Player19, I emailed you.

I get the point, there are a ton of factors that contribute to ET's. This was on a 70 degree day, low humidity, etc. I just pulled it in off the street and ran it, didn't even check tire pressure. I was just expecting something around 13.3's or so with power I had at that time. This weekend is going to be 90+, so even with my new mods, the results may not be favorable. Life in Vegas, elevation, heat, slow track..........oh well. I guess I just need to keep things relative, hell everything seems slower down here. It's my first year at the track and all I've ever seen are the times people post here and in the rags.

Las Vegas is one of 5 NHRA National event tracks to still use the altitude factor. 2100' above sea level.

ET x .9757
MPH x 1.0255

This will factor the times to sea level.

Sinister,

I sent a reply but it seems as if your reply email isn't working because it was returned back to me. I was going to send you a PM, but they are disabled....

The 91 octane gas will rob you of a few tenths as well.

what you really need to know is all the factors, temp, humidity, altitude, barometer and then factor that into a corrected density altitude.
