cops who have nothing better to do
Hey djc cobra, if you're still watching this thread after all the sidebars:
A lot of municipalities are starting to crack down on the front license plates because people are taking them off on purpose. Apparently, it's cheaper to pay a $25 fine for a missing plate, than a $200 fine for running a redlight with a traffic camera. A rising number of cars caught on camera running a light don't have the front plates on them...revenues drop, and the contractors who install the cameras don't get their payoff. Usually, shortening the yellow light will catch enough people to make up the difference. Oddly enough, the intersections that have installed the lights have about the same number of accidents -- they're just rear-enders instead of T-boners, because people slam on their brakes to avoid a ticket, and get hit from behind.

Since we are on the subject of cops, when I was a kid my dad brought home a police dog for a pet. He was this big black German Shepherd. He was very impressive but apparently, he could not do the job. The day after we got him he ran away; we found him at Winchells Doughnut House.
All I know is that everyday I see those two towering lights extending upward into the sky from Lower Manhattan, my heart goes out to every person who puts themselves in the line of fire everyday. And with all that is going on in world, I would hope one would have better things to complain about then a $25.00 ticket. You broke the law, pay the fine and move on.

Yea what he said why do we need front license plate I haven' t had one on my L for almost 2 years with no problems I just put the plate in the front window and they don't say anything. It's not like they can see it!!
LocoSVT,
Yes that's generally true, except i think they raised it to about 75 bux in CA recently.
All of our red light cams are off right now since they found they were not calibrated properly and were giving people false tickets, along with being run by a 3rd party (Lockheed?). These cameras only take front shots, so I believe they're ramping up the plate citations in preparation of these cameras being turned back on.
All i know is when i go through lights with these cameras installed, the yellow light on the turn lanes is solely time dependant, not traffic dependant. Therefore, it will turn yellow as people are goin thru the intersection and if you're not payin attn, you'll get caught in the intersection.
I then changed my driving course to avoid said light. It took 3 cycles to get thru the turn due to this time dependancy.

As I read this, the people who were being ticketed *CHOSE* not to display front plates as required by law. When did they suddenly become above the law that the rest of us choose to follow? To me it is all b!tch!n' and moaning because they got "Caught".
Quite possibly the officer was just killin' time in between rousting the drunks.

Anyway, I'm done here, tired of talking to the few cop haters.
