Thumbs up Volant!!!!

I just installed the Volant air kit on my '01 L. It replaces the PSP filter kit I have been using for about 7 months or so now. The Volant is a very high quality piece, very sturdy. The inside of the intake duct is as smooth as glass. The air temp sensor is relocated to the intake duct, after the MAF. The installation was easy and straight forward. You have to re-use your air temp sensor from your current setup. I have the JL ram air (original style), also.

I didn't really expect a large improvement with this kit over the PSP kit. I had intended to go to the dyno to see whether I gained or lost and report the findings. That was before I took it out for a test drive. There is an extremely noticeable improvement. I spun the tires at light throttle when I pulled out onto the road from my drive. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE! I proceded to accelerate away from the traffic behind me at a little over half throttle. WOW! I was pressed into the seat hard. I can't believe the improvement. More testing to follow. No dyno run at this time though. Maybe later. Thumbs up! ~Roger

Some of the guys here don't like to deal with these people; but, this is where I got it. http://www.truckperformance.com/

It took about three weeks to receive it; but, it was worth the wait. I still can't believe there is so large a difference. Part #19954 is what you're looking for. $313.00 shipped.

Thanks for the info. I was trying to decide today between the Volant/JDM/Stock box w/K&N. I am sure I would like the look of the Volant box and now knowing the performance is actually better is a real, real bonus.

Odin the setup you got was specifically for the 90mm maf that the 01's and up have? The picture on the website looks like the 80mm. For the 90 the inlet tube and hole that is in the box should be larger... I'm just making sure that the diameters are not 80mm. Thanks Jeff

JeffsLightning,

This was a concern for me as well. I called to verify that the kit would work on the '01 before I bought it. The 90mm MAF fit the box fine; but, I was concerned that the inlet tube seemed to be smaller than the MAF on the outside. Everything went together nicely though. If I hadn't gotten such a noticeable improvement, I would probably have been bothered that it "does" seem to be setup to work with both MAFs. If the kit hadn't worked out, I would have sent it back. There may be room for improvement on the kit; but, it is an improvement on my previous setup. I didn't really care for the loudness of the blower with my PSP kit either. I couldn't hear much from the engine compartment aside from the whine. I feel like I'm getting better in cab feedback now. ~Roger

Thanks for the feedback on this thing...

I've been scoping this item out for my upcoming Lightning purchase, but have had absolutely NOOOOOOooooooooooo response from Volant tech support on their web site. All I really wanted was dealer info on where I could buy it, but these bozos wouldn't even stoop to a reply after four requests over the past three months. I finally had to call them (long distance), and even then they couldn't give me a dealer name, just a wholesaler, who I (again) had to call long distance. Finally found out who sells them near me; was quoted $350.

But it's great to know it's a quality item and actually produces results.

But Volant really needs to figure out the meaning of customer service.

How does it sound VS the stock airbox? Is it same, louder, muffled, etc.
