Volant!!!!
Dionisio- while I agree with your comment on the amount of air inb the engine compartment and the Volant box not really doing anything better than the factory box(as far as it having the same limitations) I have to say that its the inlet tube that makes the real differance. I've always said that any smooth inlet track, either plastic or metal, would make for a substantial power increase (8 or more H.P.) over the factory "rippled" tube. We fabbed one for my 98 N/A Cobra, and it picked up 7 H.P. on a dynojet 250 with nothing else added . The car only had an underdrive pulley and a gutted MAF. Vortech and Paxton both have proven even more results with their own cast aluminum intakes on supercharged cobras. I suspect that they would apply on the Lightnings as well.

You sound like a promoter from Volant. I saw this kit last November at Sema in Vegas. What you write is taken directly from their literature.
I reviewed this kit and in my opinion and SVT (I spoke to an engineer from SVT) and this box is really no better than the stock box simply because it is restricted by the size of the hole in the fender. You can get the same results by puting a K&N panel filter in your stock box.
And BTW, unlike many sports cars with tight engine compartments, the Lightning has plenty of fresh cold air under the hood. An open filter gives the best performance and the best sound. I you don't like the sound then keep the box.
Bottom line, the Volant filter does nothing for performance. It is an expensive box for a conical filter, period. There isn't one serious tuner which is using or is even looking at this fancy box.

Everything I have written in this thread has been MY opinion based on my own personal experience with this kit, not parroted from another source. People have asked questions, and I have answered as best I can with the goal of making a contribution to a group of guys that have been a great source of information to me since I've joined this board. Personally, I'm happy with the kit, so far, and could care less if anyone else ever buys another one of them. I bought this setup because I was iritated by the amplified blower whine from the open element filter, and because I like the way it looks. That I received a performance gain is an added bonus.
I had intended to add an extra ram air hose to the bottom of the air box if I didn't get the same performance as the PSP kit. I will probably still do this as I am sick with the mod disease. Like Mondo and I said...... the power increase most likely came from the smooth air intake duct. I think the cone filter inside the box is an improvement, also. You are intitled to your opinion as well.

Seems that if someone got a 12 hp improvement by smoothing out the upper blower intake, the same principal would apply to the smooth inlet tube. Your conical filter gets more air than a 'stock airbox w/a K&N", and it flows that air smoothly into the throttle body.
Every aftermarket import induction kit has a smooth inlet tube, I wonder why we dont see more of these for our trucks.
Your Volant kit looks great to me, and if you put that ram air hose up to it that would be the setup to have.
