Well it finally freakin happend -Bad Night
Some of you guys seem to be a little too mean hear, i'm sure every single person on this board was not boarn with mechanical knowledge of an engine. This guy is a young person who is and has been learning as much as he can about his new truck. We all started somewhere, i'm sure i dont know half of what i should know either, but whenever i do anything i always get the advice of good sources i can find. Thats all J15Big is looking for, he is not complaining, he's looking for advice, What would you do if your engine blew??? I'm sure you'd ask around to figure out the best thing to do at the time. Others on this board are right, although i don't agree ford should have to pay for half the stuff they end up stuck with, i do beleive there should be set guidelines for what can cause these engines to fail, lets all face it, the thin line between a blown engine is very vague as described even by the mos magnussun act. I've heard several people on this board describe it in several different ways.
Bottom line is, a mistake happened and now another fellow L has died of SLDS (sudden lightning death syndrome) and probably needs a new stem cell transplant,,, do you have any idea how much a stem cell transplant costs??
Well, i gotta get the beap seal O ring out of here before my ears blead.

first off I only have a mom..my dad is dead
second of all...who are you to say when i should get what...so what i got a lightning when i was 14...im not tryin to brag or anything but we are just well off. i wanted a lightning really bad and showed my mom i was responsible so she got it for me. we got the car early cuz I was worried there werent goin to be any 2001s left(boy was I wrong). anyways, you dont know me so dont judge me or my mom. i dont give a flying piece of **** what you say about me but dont disrespect my mom. thats just not cool. this goes out to anyone else who says my mom should be whacked with anything too....that just pissed me off WhiteLightninSVTGirl....this board isnt for bashing people. damn, i wish you hadnt said that...that was just stupid.

oops
Fifteen that explains ALOT.
Now that we're cognicent of your age (or lack thereof) the prosecution/persecution rests. This is a good learning experience if nothing else.
It IS refreshing to see a whippersnapper with a grasp of grammar, spelling, punctuation, verb tense, etc.
Anyone got a tow chain for that excavator?
A 380hp vehicle is not the wisest 'first car' but to each their own.
best of luck tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your Dad man, but giving a 15 year old kid a 380 hp pick p a year before he is allowed to drive it when he has no experience is irresponsible to begin with. Secondly, how responsible did it show your Mom you were when you brought it home scorched after letting one of your buddies, no doubt another 16 year old, blow it to hell and back. Everything happens for a reason J and maybe this is just devine intervention before you use your responsible judgement calls to wind up wrapping both yourself and your truck around a tree.

I bet your mom really thinks your responsible now. I wonder who will be paying for a new engine if it isn't fixed under warranty.
I don't think hammering an engine (with an obvious problem) or letting someone else do it is exactly the smartest thing.
In light of all the recent "blown engines", I have decided not to add any more mods until I have the time and money to rebuild the engine so that it will take what ever I do to it. I made this decision because I have to pay for anything that happens to it and don't have anyone to bail me out. Just a little responsibility I've gotten from experience.

WhiteLightninSVTGirl,
we still dont know what went wrong so dont blame my friend, who is 18 by the way(I know, still not that old but not a brand new driver...hes a really good driver actually) for breakin the truck. as i said before...you dont know me, so dont judge me or my mom...you are not to say if either one of us is responsible or not. my mom has to have some sense of responsibility to take care of 2 teenagers, pay bills, manage the house, manage our town house, and have a job all at once, right...so she might of not made a wise descision in your eyes of buying me this truck.. but keep that to yourself...i sure dont want to hear it and im guessing no one else does either.

I understand my statement was out of line. I acknowledged that. I'm sure your Mom is a good Mom. I'm not saying she isn't. All I am saying is I don't think she realizes the kind of power she has entrusted you with. When I was your age I had a 66 Mustang with about half the hp you have in that truck (alright, a little more) But I would have never given the keys to a friend to drive it and I can assure you it was far from a 31,000.00 ride. Like I said, good luck with your warranty, but grow up, Man. You carry yourself well, now use some common sense. Nothing I can say is going to cause your Mom to yank the keys (which IMHO she should do until you are at least 17) so its up to you to think. It's a huge responsibility to have a vehicle...it's a license to kill to give somebody a 380 +hp vehicle to put on the street with other drivers. Just think...that's all.

With the exception of driving your truck when it was making that noise and telling us about it, you have raised the bar here on the perception of maturity. As was stated before you can communicate with the written word well beyond your years.
A friendly suggestion for you or your mom might be to buy an older truck perhaps a 60's or 70's Ford or Chevy ( 250-300 hp stock ) that is in pretty good shape. Keeping it running and looking good will teach you a great deal that will help in the future.
All of us were 15 at one point, most of us would admit that a Lightning at that age would have ended our teenage years from lack of maturity and judgement. So PLEASE be careful. We would much rather have you around to pick on than to read about you in the Newspaper.

yea i have thought about it...if i were a parent i wouldnt buy my 15 year old kid a Lightning either...but that kid is probly not like me...ask any of my friends..any of their paretns...they will all say that i am not as stupid as most 15-16 year olds. at the time we bought my truck my mom did not really know what a lightning was... i did explain to her what it was...its not like i said, oh yeah just a normal truck with some ground effects and new rims. I did tell her it was powerfull but she trusted me to be careful with it. Plus I bugged the hell outta her and she couldnt take it anymore. She trusts that I have learned from my dad not to be stupid in cars...my dad died in a car accident....he wasnt goin fast or anything but she knows i know that any car...even a 100hp honda can be dangerous in the hands of a bad/stupid driver.
