yep that sucks, but you know, hammering a knocking motor ain't the brightest thing to do. Anyway, pull your mods and i wish you the best, in hopes of a new warranted motor

thanks guys.
i have a question.
lets say ford voids my warranty and I need a new engine. How much money are we talking here. will they just replace the engine itself(block, internals, heads) or will they replace everything from the oil pan to the supercharger to the airfilter??? If they void my warrany would I be better off buying a new crate motor from some where and having it installed? Which one would cost more/less?

thanks

was just over at karkrafts web site in their performance section
http://www.karkraft.com/performance.htm
crate motor is $5695 and longblock is $3695. I sitll dont know what went wrong but if i do need a new engine it will probly only be the block and not the supercharger. who would do an engine swap for me around here? this would be a good time to put some new rods and pistons in their. maybe some good will come outta this after all.

Hey Buddy...I have deep sympathy for you...

Just in case...the name of the warranty law is the "Magnuson Moss Act". I suggest you check it out at

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...y/undermag.htm

Good Luck!

This act basically guarantees warranty unless they can PROVE that the malfunction of your engine was a result of you modifications of care. In other words...remove everything...have a lawyer in mind...and they can't do Shi* about it. (Except replace the engine ofcourse)

If you can't understand the first link...check this out---->

I think the entire engine is probably the best deal. You could probably sell your intake and supercharger off the old engine and would get a completely new engine for right about the same. If you move the old intake to a new block you need new bolts and gaskets also...

If the warranty is voided, will your insurance company cover it?

Don't know if it has been mentioned yet or not, but I seem to remember you saying that you already had an appointment to take your truck in on Tuesday for that loud rattle from under your hood. I think that this will work to your advantage. But like everyone else is saying, just be prepared. All mods off, get a good lawyer in mind, and just be curtious, but adult like and firm with the people you'll be dealing with at the dealership. Most of all, I'd say don't try over BS'ing your story. Most of the guys I come across at dealerships, have been racing since before I was born. Keep the story simple in other words. Good luck...

just from hearing that sound file, and having heard the same noise from some other regular 4.6 and 5.4 the last few years , it sounds like it started as a rocker coming off, or a broken valve spring, which then turned into a dropped valve. Those modular motors usually dont rod knock for days before they go, and it usually doesnt sound like that. But if a valve finally did drop, the end result of a bent, broken rod would be the same. The only other catastrophic thing ive seen lately is the edges of pistons chipping away from detonation and that could beat a valve to death or stick it, causing a collision with the piston and a bent/thrown rod.

this morning when I went outside to check on the truck I found a little pond of oil under her and half coolant/half oil on the dipstick. I dont really know what this means. Most likely ford will void my warranty so here is my plan. Put her in storgae till august. Buy a new longblock(without blower,etc..) from karkraft(if they still have them), have it and my tucked shipped to PSP, have them upgrade my internals, salp on one of their high output blowers, put the mods i already have minus the flows on there, and drive her home slow to break her in. Sound Good?!?! Now, all I have to fiugre out is will sal do this for me?? i still havent brought it in to ford but i dont know if i am even goin to try. i am 99% sure they will void my warranty so i dont see the point of having it towed there then having to pay for it to be towed back here. im going to see if i can get my friends-friend who has his own shop and is ASE certified to come out and look at my truck in front of my house instead of having it towed somewhere. well see..

later

call roadside and get it to your dealership. Ive worked in a ford service dept for 7 or8 years, and seen plenty of blown up motors. While its not real common, its also not that unusual to loose a motor every once in a while, and its ford's job to fix it, unless they have good reason not to, so it would really be worth it to have it towed in and see what happens.

Are there any openings where you work ? I would love to have a job where I could afford to buy 4 2001 Ford trucks and sell 3....

hey i'd definately try to take it to the dealer anyways,, i dont know about you but i can tow anything i want on my insurance up to a certain amount of miles a year without paying a cent. plus if you are still looking to upgrade the motor,, and you got a new one from the dealer as well, then you can just pull that motor out and sell it to some other unfortunate L owner on this board with a voided warrenty,,, he11,,, use that money to buy a viper engine and shove that in your truck so you can call it a ford f150 srt Anyways, what i've found in my history of dealing with warrenty issues it will never ever hurt to call as many people and do as much as you can, so far on my steamer oven at work i've gotten them to replace 3 broken and cracked heat exchanges and pay for shipping and labor to install just by calling and finally getting ahold of the right people. I know it sounds like a pain in the but and cars are different then ovens, but what you need to do if you are planning to keep the L is look at it as a business oportunity, work hard to see whats out there, check other L or svt boards, email other people with mods that live near you and ask where they take they're trucks in for warrenty work ( keep all that off the board though, i know if i were a dealer who let mods slip by and someone set up an advertisement for me here on this board i'd be pretty pissed) Anyways,, do all you can, it doesn't matter how young or old you are, i've found that a firm and honest aproach to any matter out there will end up helping you a ton in the long run.

You made a mistake taking your L out that night,,, we all make mistakes around here. I just hate to see you give up at a route you haven't even tried yet.

ok, i will bring it in to the dealer on tuesday and see what they say. should i take all my mods off though? i dont want to deal with getting under the truck for 5 hours and under the hood for another 5 hours just to be rejected by ford. im stuck! this really sucks.

Doug, sure, come on up, we'll put you to work! I spent about 3000 trading into the L, about a even swap into the lariat supercrew, and a couple more thousand to trade into the 4x4 lariat supercab just like i had to begin with. Oh well, there's always this year to try to put money into savings. I'm gonna try to hold off on trading any more untill the new bodystyle 150's come out next year about this time (i think)
