you have to try

YOU HAVE TO AT LEAST TRY. REMEMBER THERE ARE LAWS THAT PROTECT YOU LIKE WHAT WAS STATED IN ONE OF THE PREVIOUS POSTS. IF YOU TRY AND FAIL THEN YOU WAIT TILL AUGUST AND LET SAL GO TO TOWN ON YOUR NEW MOTOR. BUT ONLY AND IF YOU FAIL. I THINK YOU HAVE SOME THINGS WORKING OUT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE, LIKE THE FACT YOU ALREADY HAD AN APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER FOR THE NOISE. REMEMBER YOU CAN MAKE THEM LISTEN TO THAT CLIP TOO. I WISH THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU.

I WILL SLAP YOU SILLY IF YOU DON'T ATLEAST TRY.

Thumbs down MY OPINION ON THIS SILLY MATTER

It seems like you understand that you caused this problem. Anyone that posts a sound file with detonation, and then "beats" on an injured truck, deserves to pay his own way on his mistake.
I dont know you, and I am not bashing you. But trying to have FORD pay for this, is rediculous.

I cant begin to count the number of times I have read here that " My Motor is being replaced by FORD under warranty" on a modded truck.

Dont you think FORD is aware of this site? Here we have a collection of a few thousand L's ( mostly modded), that have had problems with engines, intercoolers, transmissions, etc....

They know who you are

I didn't hear detonation in that sound file. It sounded as if something was knocking around in the engine, but not detonation.
Just because a truck is modified doesn't mean that Ford shouldn't be responsible. Let's say all he had were a conical filter, exhaust, and a chip. A rod breaks... The rod could have been bad from the factory. It is Fords responsibility to prove that the mods caused the failure.

Brutal

Sorry to hear about your L. I don't why some of the other people here are ******* you -you admitted making a mistake and sounds like you were/are ready to pay for a new motor. I'm with you, it would be nice if Ford replaced it on there bill -but if they don't you're ready to be responsible for your actions. Just because you modded your truck doesn't mean something "factory" didn't cause the failure.

Curious though, how many stock motors have blew? Any?

Almost 18,000 miles, and No mods. I'm happy that the truck runs like a scalded ape as it is. I live at 6000' altitude. It's a kick in the behind to go to Vegas at 2000'. I have not had 1 kill in all these miles. I guess too many people are aware of the stoplight king ? LOL

I may mod after the warranty is up ? Who knows ? I'd also like to pull out my stock engine and set it in the corner. Buy & build up another engine. If I encounter any problems............ I have a runner sitting in the corner ready to go in.

Good luck in whatever happens.

one time, i had an eight track player in my 66 impala, and it ate one of my favorite tapes, so instead of checking it out and cleaning it, i used another tape, to see if it was the tape or the player with the problem. son-of-a-beeaaaach, if it didn't eat that one too! glad they quit making 8-tracks. should have quit making impalas too!

ps: sorry about your motor

I had a bug shield on my GMC sierra pickup. One day I noticed it was cracked. I called the company that sold it to me, they said bring it in and we'll replace it. very simple. I suppose they could have claimed that since I had a suspension lift that would have voided the warranty, or something.

Don't let all these guys get to you, these are the same peple who say, " I drove it like I stole it from second one" or "I broke it in at the track". You learn by your triumphs AND your mistakes. I finally listened to the sound file, it sounds like a valve train problem, not a lower end/rod knock problem. Listen to the engine rev, the noise goes away and is more of a "tick " sound. A rod knock will get louder as you rev the motor and has a "knock" sound (hence the name, rod knock).
Now you know not to flog a car with a valve train problem AND that a valve train problem can and will lead to a lower end problem and lower end problems are usually fatal and expensive. Hey, you gotta learn everyday, if your not learning your a narrow minded fool! Or maybe you indeed do know everything .......Like me .
EDIT I sure hope that isn't your excavator speedy. Or just as bad your handy work j/k.

so you knew better than to take it out, did so anyway, let a friend drive/dog/kill it, and didn't say anything? Pardon the pun but is he willing to foot some of the bill if you warranty claim is denied and subsequently voided?

disclaimer: I neither believe in nor condone the drive it like you stole it mentality

just calling it as i see it. Too much Bill O'Reilly I guess...

Wow...theres a 16 year old kid up in Cheyenne whos Dad bought him a 00 L. Kid worked in a friend's performance shop cleaning up and doing simple work to mod the hell out of it. Few months after he got it he gave the keys to his gf who was on main and hit a patch of Wyoming's famous black ice, skipped it though a ditch and took out the front row of brand new cars and trucks at the Dodge dealership, kid got a new 01 L shortly there after...point of the story...don't give your keys to your stupid friends unless your dad is a neurosurgeon. Good luck with warranty, but don't hold your breath. Every dealership is different, but none of them wants a $6,000.00 hit.
