Lightning met it's match!
Let's skip the boring stuff first: Took a 1997-1998 Porsche 993 Carrera from a stoplight - no problem for the L even though the tires were lit through first gear (goin uphill). I thought the 911 would give me a better run for my money, but I guess the guy probably didn't want to dump his $$$$ clutch.
On to the good stuff: Was coming home from lunch and came up behind a black 2001 SVT Cobra at the toll booth. He took off and I chased and we exchanged thumbs up and played around a bit. He seemed like a gentleman and was respectful of cars around him. Whenever we found an open spot in the traffic, he would take off and I would follow. Didn't notice anything special about his car except for the "ProCharger" sticker in the window (I had no idea what that meant - could have been a ram-air filter kit for all I cared). Anyways, we hit a really open stretch of highway and I saw his nose dip as he backed off the throttle and coasted to around 50 mph. I followed suit and turned off the Overdrive, waiting for him to let loose. We both punched it at the same time, but I had to downshift while he was already in the right gear. He was actually 1/4 carlength behind me when we both stepped on it, but he caught up in no time. His junk was LOUD, and while we stayed pretty even until about 70 mph, he started nosing up on me and then pulled out about a 3/4 carlength at almost 115 MPH. We both shut it down and I gave him a HUGE thumbs up at that point. He waved excitedly, and I think he was surprised I could hang with him.
Anyways, having no idea what "ProCharger" meant, I went home and looked it up. Wow! From what I can see on the web, this blown Cobra should have wasted me. Does anyone know the specifics on these kits (total horsepower, 1/4 mile time, etc)? I assume this guy only had the mild Stage 1 kit, because the Mustangs with the wilder flavors show some killer figures. Anyone else run against one of these from a stop and care to share the results?

I could have just been a sticker.
I don't know what your truck runs but a 01 cobra with a procharger kit with just about any procharger blower should smoke a lightly modified L. But that all depends on what model blower he had on the car. My guess is that his mustang was stock and that he doens't even have a blower on the car, if not your trucks moving pretty good!

Yeah, I don't think there's any way I could keep up with a blown Cobra. Does ProCharger make ram-air filter kits?
I bet the sticker added 5 hp!
OK, assuming it was just a sticker, would a stock 2001 Cobra pull a stock 2001 L like that from 55 MPH to over 100? Or did he have something else under the hood? (maybe more stickers?)

I own and know cobras .If, and I do meen if, he had a procharger on his car, it should produce anywhere from 415-450 rwhp...that does depend on if it was intercooled or not AND if he had it properly tuned.I've actually have seen 1 or 2 blown Mustangs that were "slapped on" either with no or generic tuning that produced a little more than 40 or 50 h.p. To complicate matters more, the 99 Cobra may be the weakest Cobra. ( Ford had intake and tuning problems that year)So based on this lets say stock it produced 260 rwhp ( this was the most common h.p. reports listed) add 60% (prochargers typical intercooled increase) and you end up with 415 rwhp. The non-intercooled earlier models should be around 45%--that gives you around 365 h.p.If you have mods on your truck the last combo should put you on par with the non-I/C car.Otherwise your typical 99 Cobra cannot muster more than 285 rwhp.( 4v heads and cams are almost never changed on Cobras) and headers have been known to offer little gains for their price and labor complexity.I say he did have a S/C.
Thanks for the clarification Mondo. I remember this Cobra definitely sounding different (lotsa belt/turbine noise) so I'm thinking you're right - probably blown but with a mild Stage 1 package (and without intercooler). On another note, do all stock Cobra exhausts sound so much louder than Lightning exhausts?
Told me it goes 200mph
No way that goes 200mph! The ONLY SN95 Mustang to go over 200 mph is John Buscemi's. He has WAY more than just a blower.
Check out his site... http://www.200mphracing.com/Index.htm
with the right gearing, i don't see why the car couldn't go 200 mph.
with 4.30's in my cobra, i would go 133 mph in the 1/4 (not in overdrive) with about 400 rpms to go, now, drop me down to like 3.27's and put me in overdrive, i see no reason why i could not have attained 200 mph
this is from the corral website, in 5th gear at 7600 rpms, my speed would be 198.579850749006
now, if i put in 3.27 gears i get this 261.129467345788
now, you have to take off for wind drag, but the corral calculator is pretty accurate. i think if it's telling me i can get 261, i should be able to manage 200 mph
as far as power #'s, i believe all newer procharger kits come intercooled for the 99 ups.
with a base vortech kit, my car made 443 rwhp. these things are nasty on the big end also, i raced a 13.0 n/a cobra on the way home from bowling green with my 4lb jl and chip, and racing from 80, he would pull on me every time. a blown cobra should be running a minimum of 12.5's or so, and on the highway would be more than a match, imo. a 12.5 cobra vs a 12.5 L on street tires will be totally different from a 55 mph roll, you are hitting the cobra's sweet spot. our advantage is from a stop.
i raced my buddy's 12.0 n/a cobra, he runs 12.0's on dr's, i run 12.76 on street tires. i figure him for about 12.4's or so on street tires. we raced about 2 months ago, and he mashed me every time, however, when we raced from a stop, i put 4 or 5 lengths on him outta the hole.
if he was blown, he didn't know how to drive

heres a wind resistance/hp reqd calculator to play with. need to punch in the variables, frontal area, weight etc.

Hi, guys!
I may be racing an L150 soon and wanted to check around.
It's possible he's spraying.
I have an ATI Procharger customized by Golden West Performance with larger injectors, an aux fuel pump and programming. I've added headers and a SY3500 Converter. (Stock Internals and NO Nitrous) my best was:
1.65 60', 7.07 1/8 ET @ 99.49 MPH, 10.98 1/4 ET @ 125.83

I don't think all four tires would stay on the ground. Wind resistance alone is enough to keep your snake from the 200's.
Did you check out the site I posted? And see what he had to do to his snake to attain those speeds?
Not flaming here just stating what has already been tried and proved.
