Lightning met it's match!
Um, this discussion IS about Lightnings...
I appreciate a Lightning as much as the next guy. I'd love to have one and you can bet my "cry baby A$$", as you call it, that I would want to drive it responsibly.
In fact, I find it quite humorous that you now can state that "most" people have raced and hit 140. If that isn't a statistic that you pulled out of your "over-inflated ego A$$", I don't know what is. In fact, I'd bet that most people who drive Lightnings, or any other Ford truck for that matter, drive their trucks safely and without endangering themselves or others. Those that race, like you, don't. You say you're not here to be judged? This statement following the open support of a poster to admits to breaking the law and endangering those on the street with them? Give me a break. I'm all for you taking your truck to a track and letting go there. Doing so on the street is foolish. And to say that street racing doesn't affect anyone else is ignorant, because you've never had to see the results of a street race gone very bad. This disrupts the lives of the innocent, endangers those participating (blast me for caring about your life, OK?) and causes insurance rates for all to rise.
Look, when someone posts a message like this thread advocating street racing, something HAS to be said. If you can post a message supporting street racing, then I have just as much right to post a reply that is not in favor of it. Having enthusiasm for Lightnings does NOT advocate supporting street racing. This argument is the very same argument that anti-handgun groups use - damn the machine because it is what allows people to misuse them, right? I like Lightnings, but abhor those who misuse them to the point where they brag about it, while breaking the law.
You say that I'm really pi$$ing you off pushing my opinion openly. What, does your opinion cary more weight than mine? I spent 14 years in the Army defending your right to express your opinion, but also ensuring that one person's opinion is no more important than another. Oh, and I see that in the length of your message, the number of people who street race went down from "most" to "many". What changed the numbers?
Censorship, when it is one sided, is usually called propaganda. Is this what your advocating? And what "competition"? Competition does not belong on the street. So, I tell you what: If you're in favor of street racing, please, by all means, walk into the nearest police station and inform the police of this fact. I'm sure you'll get a warm reception from them. And if you choose not to do so voluntarily, then I suppose you should inform your family now of your ideas for your funeral and also let them start planning on saving the money they'll need to pay off the family of the person that you may kill in the process of your continued street racing career.
Oh, and just so you know, I was young and stupid once too. However, I appear to have grown up on both counts of that statement. I do hope that that in the future your intelligence grows faster than your age has in the past.
Face it guys and girls... Lightnings, just like any other truck, can be misused. But a Lightning has the potential to be a much faster vehicle than most. You do NOT have to prove this on the street, for it is already well known. So you have nothing to prove, so don't street race. Take it to the track. Let your family and loved ones know that you care about them enough not to endanger your life or the lives of others. They will love you more for it.

Rapier,
Take your crap else where! Propaganda,( Bah, hum bug) You served in the Army for 14 years, So what! My dad served in WW2 and Korea. My brother just got out of the Air Force after 21. Who cares?
Stick to the subject. You don't like street racing. Fine. We read what you had to say! Get lost if your going to preach on here.
You sound like a goodie 2 shoes or a cop! This board is not here to bring CNN and the daily news to our attention when people get killed in vehicles. This is not the place for it!! What don't you understand about that? If you want to preach join a monastary or a convent if you like the nun look!
Each of us are responsible for what we do in life. I don't tell people to race on the street. Not to mention only a few have admitted to doing 140 on here. I wouldn't do it on a highway or in a vehicle without the right protection. "I'd hate to get hurt."
I also don't tell grown men and women what to do in life. Even if it's deemed dangerous. "Many here do race on the street." Try reading the threads here more often.
We all know racing on the street is wrong. That's the adrenaline rush! Just like cops chassing a bad guy. They get him after a chasse and beat his A$$ and hope a camera isn't around to catch it. They break the law they are sworn to up-hold. Isn't that a double standard?
My dad was a sheriff at one time. I grew up with the law. What are you going to tell me that I don't know at my age. I never had a racing ticket stick on my record. Why? Paid good money for a lawyer. Don't even have a criminal record. I also believe in the right to bare arms. I have gunns also. Scarry hugh?
So what does all this mean? Get lost if your going to post non-L related threads that have to do with death. I'm done with you and this crap!!. Oh, and arrogant is sooo not me. I know I beat up on your F150 sorry that was a cheap shot.
By the way! I'm 34, No wife, no kids I have my own home,
financial advisor and life insurance. If i have an accident and die taking someone with me in the process, my family will not be liable or have to pay for my mistakes. They can sue my dog and if they have a good lawyer, they just might get my Rolex off my dead a$$.
Have a Merry Christmas and a safe one at that. If you ever come to Detroit! Don't drive in the fast lane! You'll get run over. We don't follow the speed limits here.

it's not about condoning nor non-condoning street racing, it's a subject that will come up a lot.
if you feel the board needs something, just have a little disclaimer stating that f150 does not condone nor endorse street racing, however, censoring posts about it would be absurd IMO.
merry xmas all

My L is for fun only.Every time I take it out,I'm looking for illegal street competition(which is getting harder to find all the time). The L will beat 99% of the cars out there.Including all those kids in ricers with stickers and fart pipes.I hunt for the other 1% in nondescript, low profile, highly modded street racers. These guys drive the real deal. They mostly know each other and meet in large groups in a traffic barren area and run race after race.Street racing like this has been going on all the country, since the advent of electric start.I went to these type of races with my father and brother as a kid. This type of competition is on a very friendly level. It's the "newbie driver"that races his death trap through rush hour traffic at high speed.Usually kids, competing at putting the public at risk, testing stupidity, rather than testing equipment.
I'm a 40 year old, refrigeration mechanic that street races for a hobby, weekend after weekend. There are many like me,all ages and vocations.Even though the first drag stip was built to deter this activity,it still survives for the purists. No time slips,no classes,no entrance fee.Just a deserted road,a couple of lookouts and "run what ya' brung".It's an illegal,American tradition that was going on before most of us were born.(except maybe LIGHTINROD or BBQMan)
You may as well advocate the abolishment of red meat consumption.Your protest against street racing will have the same impact.

Ouch guys...
I turn my back for a few days to get some christmas shopping done and look what I find happening to this thread.
Rapier, I understand your position and agree - I shouldn't be street racing. It's dangerous and put other people's lives at risk. Not that it matters much, but for this particular run with the Procharger, we had cleared through all traffic on a new, nicely paved highway with 4 lanes in each direction and a huge 50 yard-wide median protected by Jersey walls. We weren't exactly gunning from light to light in a busy intersection near the local pre-school or church. Yes, it's still wrong and I am ashamed of it. But I didn't post to brag and promote street racing - I posted because I was curious about a new car and I wanted to learn more about these ProCharger Mustangs.
I think it's safe to say that most L owners *do* in fact participate in some form of "street racing" whether everyone cares to admit it or not. We would have bought something else if we weren't excited by instant thrust, tire smoke, and fast speeds. Whether you hit 140 mph for grins or just rev the engine at a light when parked next to a Corvette - it's all part of the ownershp experience. If that Corvette interprets your revving the engine as a challenge, launches when the light turns green and puts his plastic car into a tree and kills himself, is it your fault? Witnesses may say you may have been "street racing" too, so there's a fine line between what constitutes "acceptable" driving behavior and "street racing." I see people in L's getting pulled over for "reckless driving: exhibition of speed" because they pulled out from an intersection and the cop didn't like the sound of their Bassani or supercharger whine.
I hope everyone has a safe and joyous holiday. Let's be careful out there, and make sure no one on this forum ever gives Rapier a good reason to have to voice his position again - we've all seen enough tragedy this year.
