Cool Difference in the Lightning and Harley..

You guys wanna know the difference in the Supercharged Harley and the Lightning????

Wonder why the Horsepower and Torque difference....

Ya ready.....

6.0mm in the pulley diameter.

Yep, that is it.

So all you guys that are running aftermarket upper pulleys can sell your stock pulley to a Harley owner. And tada... they have the same performance of a stock Lightning.

Now to just make it a little lighter........

Correct me if im wrong but the H/D is getting a 340HP version of the 5.4L S/C motor. The 2001 Lightning's have a 385HP version of the same motor. I reall doubt 45HP is lost from a 6mm bigger upper pulley. Chances are that the computer is detuned and the exhaust is being restrictve since they are keeping the H/D sound.

The upper pulley is the only "physical" difference between the the engines...

Cool

Superchargers1,
I believe you on the pulley difference but a loss of 45 hp is not from a pulley only,i would bet they richened up the computer like the 99-00 L were than that would put the numbers more in line!
I have dynoed the stock pulley against the 2# pulley and have also dynoed the new 4# pulley and with my findings these pullies make massive torque but not near as much HP as one would think. But anyway thanks for the info i am sure it will be beneficial for some.

Matt

Matt,
Yeah that makes since....

Let me correct myself...

The S/C Harley will have a 6.0mm larger pulley than the Lightnings.

(I am sure the ECU is different also....)

Thanks,
SC1

I gotta go with everybody else on this one. 40 HP seems like a lot for just a pulley.

Chip and pulley should do it....

Oh yeah, the Front of the Harley Supercharger is blank.. No "EATON" or "FORD SVT". So, you need to get a new Front Cover....

SVT put blank covers, SVT covers, and Eaton covers on these truck. It was just what they had on the shelves at the time. It is not just for the S/C'd H/D.

The exhaust may have some todo with it. Since the Lightning's exhasut stock is about the best there is, and the H/D has an exhaust for the sound. I really think some power is lost with the H/D's exhaust.

Front Covers

No, the S/C Harley has a blank cover.

The Lightnings have either FORD SVT or EATON. THere are no more EATON covers left. So ALL Lightings now have FORD SVT.

And ALL Lightnings have a BLANK cover.

SVT does not Assemble the Superchargers, so it does not matter what is on there selves.

The print calls for Blank Front Covers.. Could not even talk them into the Harley logo... they simply wanted blank.

If you find a Lightning with a Blank Cover let me know! It should not exist! If there is ONE out there, it would have to be a 2001 or a service replacement..and it problably has a 6.0mm larger pulley on it.

i believe all of the 99 lightnings had "eaton" on the supercharger snout.
i also believe most of the 00's had eaton on the snout also.
there were a few 00's and 01's that came out with a blank snout because svt and eaton supposedly were arguing about which design that should be on there (the eaton or the svt logo).

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ht=spiro+snout
here is a post by spiro where he states
I was able to purchase a blower for a good price from a friend with a stock pulley and blower setup, and also a 2000 L casing with no "logo" on the snout, kinda rare...and cool.
i hope the harley davidson will keep the blank snout, or go with a eaton one.. i don't think they will put the svt one on there unless svt is gonna market the truck.
i imagine since the H-D truck is just a concept vehicle that there will be several changes to it before it becomes mass produced. just as it is with all concept vehicles.
just thought of something.. IF SVT were to market the truck, imagine all the emblems that would be all over the truck..
HD emblems, F150 emblems, SVT emblems.. prolly gain 20-30 HP just from sticker mods... LOL

just my two cents.

ps- where the hell is the spell check button? hehe

thank you, drive thru

SC1, there are blank snouts out there and they are not recent. Ford and Eaton had a bit of a "squabble" about what the blower should say, so in late 2000/early 2001, they put blank covers on some of the trucks until the red tape was taken care of. I've seen 3 of them myself.
