here are a couple more links to the blackwook pegasus (from the other ford forum, not as nice though as f150online ofcourse) . I guess you shouldn't worry so much about the less powerful hd and more about the pegasus blackwood if this beast hits the street. (which i doubt it even will) http://www.f150world.com/showownerpi...=34613&album=1

i have another bag of rocks

hey harley but you should do some research before you buy your next vehicle. I bought my L three months ago and the day i was there, the salesman was trying to talk me into buying a harley....the same truck you are driving for about 5k less then you paid for it. They are still being advertised for invoice around here.....can i get a witness....Don C, if you read this, you've probably seen them in the paper. Anyone who paid more than MSRP on those harley is a stem head. Bags of rocks, gets your bags of rocks here!!!!

PLEASE END THIS POST!!!!!!!!!!!

geez, you people wont get off it. and I paid 32k something, which was msrp. If they charged me more i wasn't gonna get it. and 3months ago when you said a dealer was trying to get you to buy a hd is about a year after i got my harley. obviously they are gonna be cheaper after they have been out for a year. i got mine in julyof 2000, the very first month and year they came out, not any 3 months ago. and also i have seen used harleys in the autotrader magazines going for around 27k, maybe even less. what i said was in ten or so years when the harley series has long ended, their value will go back up.

Jezus,

Does Harley #356 have a job? Because I can't figure out how anyone can find the time to post as much as he does (unless he works at night and he should be sleeping now). He posts on this thread like every 5 minutes. I bet 25% of his 166 posts are on this thread alone! I don't agree with him, but I gotta give him credit - that's passion. I'll entertain Ford/Harley passion over Chebby/Dodge nonsense anyday....

Hey BMWBIG6 I love your truck.

Both Harley356 & 2KL need to give it up. They both must work at the same place. lol

Can't we all just get along.

Both Harley356 and 2KL have nice trucks different but nice.

Just leave it at that.

BIGREDEXPY, thanks for the compliment!

Harley#356, Good for you - I wish I had a job where I could make my own hours and peruse the forums whenever I like. I wouldn't say I disagree with *you* as a person, but more with your opinions, which we're all entitled to.

I will admit to feeling a little sad when I read the article describing next year's Harley Davidson edition F-150. It's a little too close for comfort in my book. It's not the HD's power or performance I care about, but the fact that they dropped the L engine into the HD like a cheap modular piece of Legos. I consider the L to be a finely tuned machine comprised of a carefully matched "system" of performance parts (even if they are off-the-shelf). Mounting chrome HD wheels on a base F-150 is one thing, but plopping the L's engine (even if they did handicap it somewhat) into another F-150's body leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. It's not about me trying to be "better" than someone else, it's just not appealing to me as an SVT consumer. If the HD was part of the SVT family, then that's one thing. But it's not and I don't think any SVT engine belongs in a "king of the road" cruiser (as you yourself described it). BMW uses their current M3 engine in their M3, M coupe, and M Roadster. Mercedes uses the same blown 3.2 liter in their C32 and SLK 32, not to mention the 5.5-liter V8 in their S55, CLK55, and E55. All of the above are their high-end performance rockets. They have plenty of other more mundane engines for their "cruisers" and don't pay their "M" Motorsports Division nor AMG Tuning Department to re-package performance engines into more pedestrian models. You don't see BMW selling a "Kawasaki edition 325i" with an M3 engine that makes 10% fewer horsepower, do you?

Ford should not betray its SVT following by diluting the breed in this way. If SVT is nothing special, then they shouldn't expect people to pay a premium for it. And why bother having a certified SVT technician at your dealer, because the dude who works on your HD F-150 should be just as qualified to work on your Lightning too.

IMHO, Ford and other car companies have engaged in too many short-sighted marketing moves with no consideration for the loyal, return customer who actually cares about the marque. I can't say I totally blame them for trying to kick-start their sales in the current economy, but there are plenty of people on this board who will vote with their money the next time they are shopping for a new car. Take a look at Audi. Almost every year of production saw the A4's horsepower rise, artificially increasing the rate of depreciation for all older A4 owners. This is not good business when their current customer base won't be able to afford their next Audi because they couldn't trade in their cars for jack sh*t.

But I'm happy for HD owners, and I'm happy with my L and that's what's most important.

BMWBig6, i know how you guys feel about this, i feel the same way when someone else puts harley knock off rims on a cheap truck. but some people in here earlier were over reacting saying they were going to sell their L cuz ford is expanding their s/c market. You have a right to be pissed, but it seems a little extreme when guys say they are never buying a ford again and selling their L. I mean when i see another cheap truck with hd rims i get pissed cuz he's giving the rims a bad look, but i'm not gonna go sell my harley jsut cuz someone has knock off rims. You gotta see it from ford's perspective, even thought it may not make you happy, they are doing this for profit, and to give more customers happy. I'm sure the L's will get more hp for next year. I think it would have been better to leave the hd engine as it was in the previous two years, and since they did put a tuned down L engine in it, it would make sense for it to be svt since your engines should only be messed with by a svt cetified tech., but in my mind svt harley doesn't go together that well. although maybe they might recommend that the 02 hd owners take it to a svt dealers when it needs engine work. o yeah BMWBig6, that little pic in your sig of the burn out thing is awsome.

Thumbs up

Glad you like the animated GIF - I made it to use as my Instant Messenger buddy icon. Feel free to use it if you like.

You have many valid points, but just to set the record straight on my stance:

- I think it's great that the new HD is S/C and has more power.

- I'm a little disappointed that Ford had to borrow the L's engine to achieve that additional power.

- I don't think Ford needs to raise the L's power next year - it's great the way it is.

- I admit that the Lightning would not be here today, in its present glorious form, if it weren't for the vast amounts of funding and resources made available through the purchases of regular Ford cars. But I think Ford should reconsider its role for SVT products, as it stands to diminish many owners' enthusiasm by diluting the breed for gains in the rest of the market.

- Harley #356, you've got a nice ride, and you're excited about your Ford and the new 2002 HD. I think that's wonderful!

BMWBig6, just wanted to say you and others did have some good points earlier too. and i also think that ford could have done something else to the hd for more power rather than dropping in the L engine and detuning it, and still achieve a power increase. Also could you email me at joshv_85@yahoo.com, or give me your email address cuz i've got something i need to ask ya. thanks, Josh
