Harley w/SC at SEMA
Damn, that truck looks pretty sweet! While I love my Lightning, I think the Harley will be a better value at 36k. Has anyone installed the electronic climate control that comes in the new Harley in their truck?
HD looks pretty good.
Hey JL,
Here's 12,000 more L engines for ya to tune...
Hey Ford, It's past time for a 32 valve 500 Hp L engine for our Lightnings..So much for being exclusive anymore, thanks to you Ford.

Well, it fianally happened!
They got the L engine, headlights, and I believe grills!
I think the truck looks sweet, but the L is no longer all that exclusive. I wonder how that 2 piece driveshaft will hold up with mods...

Yeah it does look pretty nice. But I dont see it handling like a Lightning. With it being top heavy and that long wheel base with 4 people in there, I dont think it would have a chance on the twisty's
Grrr... I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm seriously bummed out and getting close to pissed-off at this news. Having a Gen2 Lightning was cool and exclusive, but not anymore...
I thought 5000 factory-supercharged F-150's per year was a lot, but after 3 years of production that's only 15,000 Lightnings total. That seems like nothing next to the 17,000 that's apparently going to hit the streets just in 2002 alone. So what happened to the SVT exclusivity?
I really am bummed... this news just ruined my night, and I just finished installing a Ford CD-6 radio, too. I guess maybe it's about time to trade this 'no longer a big deal' truck in for something else, perhaps find a decent Syclone to fix up for myself.
To me, this seriously sucks. I'm really not happy; not happy at all. Now where are those auto classifieds...

Personally, I think it's cool to have another supercharged truck in the stable. They've stated the L will remain the performance leader, so when they raise the others, they will have to raise the L to keep it the leader...and that's the part I am waiting for. Maybe we'll finally get the multi-valve heads, or bigger intercooler or....you get the picture.
Now what I'm waiting to see is a full-size 4door Supercrew spanking some unknowing f-body at a stoplight <grin>. Or a S/Crew w/6 aboard handing it to a Dakota R/T.

Well I guess I am going to have to change my name to Harley in the wings because I'm in love. Nicely put Mark. I have decided to go with a Harley S/C instead of an L because now that I have seen the new ones I have become hooked and the fact that I have to haul people around it just works out better. It shouldn't matter if it is an L with a weight problem or not it is still a killer truck that just adds to the fine line of Ford trucks.

Hi folks:
Please don't shoot me, but I picked this off the board last night and am going to order a Shadow Gray Harley S/C this morning.
Moby comes off lease in May 02, and I had been really frustrated as to what to do. Buy a new L, buy Moby or what. Whatever it was, it had to be supercharged. While I don't race much anymore and literally never spin the tires, I am totally in love with the sound of the blower, especially with Sal's air filter setup.
I need a truck for the shop but I also have been unhappy from day one with the interior room of Moby for the stuff I have to carry as well as not being able to tote the grandkids around more than one at a time (They fight to see who gets to ride with PaPa.)
Ford has now solved my problem and in a fairly good way. While not as rare as an L, it will still be quite limited in numbers compared to the millions of pickups made every year, it will have four doors and it is supercharged!!.
Technical questions: How did they reprogram the PCM to drop 40 hp from the current L and 20 from the 99/00 versions? And, can that power be regained via the chip'nfilter routine or is there more that needs doing (exhaust?). Does anyone know if the trannie innards have been massaged as in the Lightning? If not what needs to be done to insure the same relative strength of the trannie? I would like to equal the hp that Moby has which is about 405 according to my dyno runs but don't want to trash the gearbox.
As to the looks of the truck, it seems right to me with the possible exception of the wheels but I would have to see them for real before deciding on that. Don't really like the super skinny tires either but that can be fixed when the originals wear out.
Hope for some input

I think it is kind of ironic that H-D has its name on high performance supercharged truck when they put out bikes that are basically pigs when it comes to performance. (I don't want to hear about the V-ROD either; looks cool but its a pig also). I wonder if the truck will leak oil and break down as much as the bikes?
I guess I don't see it as much of a threat as some. Every yuppie dentist or chiropracter that bought an H-D a few years ago when it was cool will be running out to by this truck.
Overall I like it and its probably got some cool pieces (pedals, handles, etc.) that some can pirate off the thing.

I think all us L owners should write to Ford SVT and complain loudly. Let them know we want 32 valve heads, Larger Blower, etc and with more HP to stay way ahead of the HD or other models Ford wants to put the L engine in..
I wouldn't be surprised to see next years Thunderbird come out with the L engine.

I think it may help the l community. They will want all of our old performance mods that we have out grown. We may steel some of their interior pieces. Ford will certainly make a bold new performance statement with the G-3 L when it debuts. If you look back at the history of performance vehicles, first they come out with a class leading screamer. Next they give it modest refinements. As the generation of vehicle ages they boost the power of the "lesser" versions right before retirement. Then it repeats all over again.
