JDM Lower pulley install...01 only

I don't want to get into a "who's pulley is better" debate. Each one has it's pros and cons, and it has been discussed MANY times, so people should be able to make thier own decsions by now.
But I do have a legitimate question about this topic. I am curious as to why the JDM pulley only works on 01s right now. The stock pulley/cage setup it the same part for 99-01s. The only thing they changed is instead of using the bolt on adapter on the balancer, the 01s have it cast as one piece. This does not change anything though, and as far as I can see, the JDM setup should install exactly the same on all 3 years of trucks. So I'm just wondering why it won't work on 01s.

What I have noticed is that the only people that have gotten the JDM pulley installed on their trucks were people that went to JDM's shop and got it done by him. What I have read over at svtperformance is post that people were saying that they know the pullies are in stock but why havent they been shipped. All I know is that I gave JDM the benefit of the doubt and ordered one of my first mods from him a single blade throttle body. Well little did I know that my CC card would be charged that day but I wouldnt get the TB for a good 3 months. And the only reason im sure I got it was that at the JDM lightning day my friend yelled at him and let him know that I have been waiting for something I paid for a while ago. I talked to Jim many times on the phone and got they will be in next week and the weeks just flew by until finally my friend got a hold of him at Lightning day then I finally got something I paid for months ago. Then another thing that pissed me off is that I got charged 500 plus for the TB when my friend just ordered one for 399 and yes it bolts right on. So I gave JDM the benifit of the doubt the first time and thats what happend and after reading how people have waited 7 plus months for the pullies really have made up my mind not to do business with him again. Just my 2 cents and my experience with JDM

Like I said, I have no idea about what is involved in a 99 or 00.. I will look into it as soon as I can.... JDM's pulley does work on 99 and 00's.
The stock adaptor for the blower pulley to the crank is threaded, that is why you must think it is cast as one peice.. it isnt..
Ok.......... here is the deal. I dont want to have to answer all the questions about this pulley myself in this forrum.. .. I installed mine and was guided via cell phone by Jim @JDM, If anyone has any more questions, please email me or call JDM...This is a great pulley and product and I stand behind it 100 percent.
I am just trying to help.
JJ, the "shaft" you are leaving on the balancer IS part of the pulley, it's supposed to come off with the assembly, not stay on the motor. It's not cast as one piece, but it is pressed into the hub. Obviously to use the JDM pulley you must pull the shaft out of the hub, and press the new pulley and bearing onto it when you reinstall it. As for thinking that it only worked on the 01s right now, that's how your original post made it sound, that's why I asked

If you want to bitch about JDM or PSP or anyone else for that matter then start a thread strictly for bitching. I still havent gotten my ds loop, but do you hear me talking about that?? NO

I know the lower blower pulley is pressed onto the hub of the cage/bracket, and this gets confusing, but the shaft stays on the motor.. you use the two holes in the pulley and on the new one to tighten and loosen the new and old pulleys.. using dowels... if you want to continue this further, then email me.. I do not want to waste space or time on this thread.. it is already getting out of hand........... JJ
I don't really know how to start this post, but I will say this, I have been to track three times and JDM was at two of those events. I have talked with jim and like JJ, I stand behind his products and the way he designs them 150%. People say this and people say that, and you get that on all sides of the tuner spectrum. I really don't want this to turn into a pissing contest, I think we all know what comes next(closed thread), and that would be what I would wish for if it turned into one. badazz516, you stick with whats good for you and I'll stick with whats good for me.
Jims pulley will pop right on for '99 and'00 application. The cage differences on the '01 seperates the two, that is all!!! I was really considering a PSP pulley but I REALLY didn't like the no cage idea. I will say again that I just think Ford put that cage there for a reason and I wanted it there with my pulley. I believe that the cage was originally designed for the stress on the crank, even if there is a spring loaded tensioner. That is my belief.
The first batch of pulleys were shipped, according to JDM, so that would over rule the theroy that Jim does all his pulleys in house.
sal, question for you. Can you use the cage with your pulley or is designed without it?

JJ's Whitelight,
Why do you feel the need to defend JDM's pulley? You don't own this post because you started the topic. If someone, like JeffsLightning, want's to expand on the pulley topic he has every right to.
The bottom line on the caged pulley issue is, the Lightning is the only vehicle I have ever seen w/ a caged pulley. The stock pulley is very heavy, for whatever reason, and it makes sense that it has some support. Saleen, Roush, Steeda, etc. do not use caged pulleys. Every Mustang I have seen at the track has a standard crank pulley. Can't hurt 'em too bad.

Like I said previousily....time will tell. How many non supported overdriven pullied L motors have you seen or heard about that have destroyed crank bearings? I'm sure both setups are good. The initial first statement was made that a cage setup is better for safety AND durability. I for one have not seen any hard facts or heard from a pulley user that whould back a statement like that up....if your out there PLEASE chime in. People will have to decide for themselves what they want and for now availability and installation is mostly one sided. JJ I'm glad you are content. Everyone who comes here tries to learn something. Jeff

First off I made this post to tell people my experience with JDM its ok that you can make a post on your experience with him so I figured that I would. Second how can you say you dont want this to be a who's pulley is better post when you make quotes like "Unlike other pullies on the market, this one retains the lower cage/bracket, for obvious reasons. safety, and reliability." That sounds like bashing of other pulleies on the market. So why make quotes like that if you only wanted this to be on the pulley install.

How can you say that you dont want this to be a pissing contest when you make statments like "It really seems to me and I repeat, "its just me", that somebody is just trying to sell parts with a quote like that." How can you say something like that and not expect it to become a pissing contest.
All I did was post on my experience with JDM and why I choose not to do business with him again. And thats exaclty what you did was post your expereience with him so dont tell me that Im making this a pissing contest because I did exactly what you two have. All im saying is that its ok for you guys to say something about other people or thier products but once someone post about their experience with JDM and it doesnt agree with your opinions then im the one making it a pissing contest. If you read my post i never onced bashed his products just gave my experience with him but you guys make post bashing other peoples quotes and products so whos the one making this a pissing contest.

badazz,
this could go on forever and I am gonna stop it. We are all the same in the lightning world and we all just want one thing, To Go Faster . You had some good points on me and JJ and I will admit that. I could tell you some things about other business men, but I don't, because this is neither the place or time to start bashing people. You might not say you were bashing his products, but you were bashing his credability. I worked in the automotive parts biz with my father and you would be surprised how many people bash you for doing this and doing that. It even happens from owner to owner. I only seemed to hear it when a product wasn't available or we didn't have something in stock. I also think it is different to not actually say a tuners name in a post and when you do, it is like pointing fingers, but I think it has to stop here, right now. I really like how an info thread turned into a wrestling match over busines practices. If we want to go into this further I think it should be done by e-mail and not on here where everybody can read these posts. I find on other threads comparing to the two pulleys that people do try to turn it into a "who's pulley is better" mud slinging contest. I think that it all comes down to the saying, "you go with what you know". I, like JJ, have reasearched JDM's pulley and that is what I am going with. There was another comment in this thread that stated,
. I look at it now and I really don't know what this dude is talking about. I think he is trying to say that Jim just made this pulley idea up and took everybodys money with no pulley. I have seen the pulley and held it. It does exist. I feel that the wait is justified by the performance of the pulley. JJ ran around a 13.40 at a T&T session last week W/O the pulley and after he ran it saturday he knocked off four tenths on his time. Well, I am gonna leave it at that. Remember, we are all here for the same reason and I think we should work together and not at each others throats.

. most of the 99-00 owners had their money in Jims hands before any of your trucks were even built. is this a "who you know" thing, or a completely different pulley, or just another good business decision
The Roush stage 3 mustang has a caged pulley.

Actually what the dude was trying to say is:
a lot of us paid for these pulleys last year, long before the 01's were built, yet only the 01 owners are reporting on the merits of the pulleys. or did they purchase the pulleys, before the trucks? if you know Jim and have seen the pulleys, ask him how the distribution of these is to take place, is it an alphabetical, or lottery thing

you say "I started this thread to give people an IDEA OF WHAT IT TAKES " WILL, I've read your first post a few times and I still dont know what it takes???? All I got out of it was the feeling that you need (for what ever reason) to defend JDM's , the reason I feel this way after reading your first is because I still don't know what it takes??????
The title of your thread and I quote"JDM lower pulley install 01 only " we have a 01, and it has a PSP pulley on it so when I seen your post about the JDM pulley on a 01 I really did "want to know what it takes" but after reading your first post all I got out of it was a watered down post with the name jim or JDM typed NINE TIMES and not one thing that really told me "what it really take to install a JDM lower pulley such as tools? "what kind of tools did it take" did they all come with the pulley? did you do it on a lift or in the drive way???? how long did it take you to install the pulley??? OR SHOULD I TYPE HOW LONG IT TAKE YOU TO INSTALL THE "JDM PULLEY" ( dont want to forget about making it clear to all the DIY type people on this borad were the pulley came from )
RIGHT?????
so the next time you want to post about installing something now mater where it came from and whos it is try to add some of the answers that people are gone to want to know about installing the part!!!!!
ya right!!!! THATS YOUR TAIL I SIT ON MY TAIL !!!!
"informational purposes" ????? IT SURE DIDN'T INFORM MY AT ALL ABOUT HOW TO INSTALL THE "JDM" PULLEY
This is all (JMO) I too am not trying to start a pulley war!!!(lol)
JJ's Whitelight just for your info Iam not sticking up for PSP I run
mods from both PSP and JDM on my truck and I like it that way I like knowing that PSP and JDM both KEEP WORKING VERY HARD TO BE BETTER THAN THE OTHER !!! why do you think they have the great mods for our trucks that they do???? for that reason and that reason only , they work hard to have better mods than the other ...........
I been thinking if anyone wants to know why JJ whitelight might defend JDM maybe it the only reason I came up with after reading his post is ,,,,MONEY ...
he did say that JDM is going to let him install pulleys at his shop Iam sure JJ will not be installing them for free!!!!
