Post Can cops arrest you for burnout marks?

I was at one of my friends house and a cop pulls up and shows us pictures of a burnout mark. My friend has a mustang and the cop tried to see if they were his. I saw the picture and the marks were from my lightning. I didn't have my truck at the time. What should I say if I get pulled over. The marks are huge and only one other person in my town owns a lightning. THanks

Unless they have a witness or they can prove the Goodyear/whoever only made one set of the tires on your vehicle, there is no way it would stand up in court. They may hassel you about it, but if they ticket/arrest you make sure you go to court over it! I'm no where near a lawyer, but I don't see any way that they can prove it is you. unless you confess, you know, like you did here on this board... oops...

And what exactly would they write a ticket for? "I'm here to inform you that you are being arrested for a display of excessive force. Take your foot off of the accelerator pedal, & slowly idle away."

This happened to a friend of mine in his 00' cobra.

They cannot arrest you unless they catch you with a HUGE smoke cloud in the middle of the day on a normal street making it to where people cannot see, that is major illegal! But none of use should be doing that in the public places, just out in the middle of nowhere. You cannot get arrest for squeling tires and leaving little marks regardless, BUT they can give you a ticket for "Excessive Acceleration" or "Reckless Driving" which is what they'll call it and its a not so nice price ~200 bucks. But as far as just a picture and no see then NO they cannot do anything without any witnesses.

Thanks for the info. The cops are real jerks in the town I live in. I did smoke them pretty good, but not in front of anyone.

Squealing tires is considered wreckless driving. 100$ fine on the spot.

the cops tried to pull some crap like that with me one time. it was late like at 2 in the morning and i was in some small town named stanton tx. i was with a friend looking for his brother at a friends house. i turned off on this road and was stopped by this cop that was parked like two blocks away. he said the reason he was stopping me is because he heard me screach my tires. I laughed at him and told him, "Well did you see me?"...he said ummmmm, "No!" there you go then no proof and he let me go.

WOW! Tell your friend to hold on to that car cuz it must be rare! To my knowledge no 00's were sold to the public. Is it a 5.0 too?

Maybe it is a Cobra R... Those are 2000 models. I doubt he has an R though, they are pretty rare.

Funny you should mention this. I lit up and left about 7 feet of rubber and got pulled over.

I was in a parking lot and I saw a cop but he had pulled someone over. I didn't see the one behind him. Cause it take TWO North Syracuse cops to pull someone over. One to write the ticket and the other to look up the long words like car in the dictionary to make sure it's spelled right on the ticket.

Anyway, he could have written me for "Unsafe Start" and that's about it. Lucky for me he only gave me a ticket for not having my headlights on. Jerk. I was in a parking lot lit up like it was noon. He also didn't give me a ticket for the blackouts....

Could have been worse but come on. if they did it they wouldn't get a ticket. Something not fair about that.

I hope you can't get arrested for burnout marks either. I just left my first nasty set on the road outside of my neighborhood. I was taking my neighbor for his first ride in a Lighting. He kept saying that there is no way my truck is faster than the 98 Cobra I traded for it. He had a ride in the Cobra about a month before it was traded. I drove onto the main road. Stopped and let the L come to a rest. I put the throttle to the floor and just let her rip. I didn't stop until I went all the way through first. let off a little for second to shift at about 5300 and let off and rode 3rd gear out. Massive smoke! I wish I had a video!
