I heard that if the cop paces you and gives you a ticked that way you can go to court and ask if the car that the officer "paced" you with had been calibrated in the past month or something like that. I heard that from one of my friends. So if he paced you and did not clock you, you can check to see if he recently had his spedo calibrated. Now at the speed you were going, im not sure if you can get away with a mis calibrated speedo.

Hope this helps out

Brian

(im at 12 beers now.) can i drive tomorrow? personally, i think if the cops cant keep up with you... then that should wave all fees with respect. r-e-s-p-e-c-t. man, i cant wait to see the video. does "cops" pay us if they use our video? hehe. "piggy 1, this is piggy two". "im in persuit of two black pick up trucks north bound on 281". "pursuing in speeds excess of 110 miles per hour". "request air support". "This is air support, 120, 130, 140, their gone..."

next time, we should bring doughnuts to feed the piggys.

Mrm, Skennet, enough beers for you!

I have sympathies for you! Same advice! Get the lawyer!!

I got one of my "smaller" tickets (84 in 55) reduced to a 69 in 55 the other week...

Also be aware, that your license is not immediately suspending if you're pleading not guilty to the tickets and have a posted court date...atleast in NJ.

Hey, this also got me thinking, what do tickets in Texas look like? Here's the one I fought here in NJ...don't ask me why my trial date was in April when I got the ticket in October... (they were "busy").

Cool

Hey Dan, you got to watch that speed on Rt 3, thats where I got stopped for 93/55 on the way to work one morning. You need to get friendly with a NJ state trooper and get a "get out of jail" card. Believe me when I say , they work! See ya next sunday.

thepawn,

you got the ticklet in October, AND then the court datre in April???

Up here, you see, they tried the photo radar crap, but they couldnt keep up with the contested cases. They were giving out court dates 6 months after the fact.

One judge threw out 90% of all the photo radar tickets, because all of the defendants had been waiting for more than 120 days for their "Right to a speedy trial." Since then, not only did us Alaskans kick out the photo radar people out of this state, we also demolished the Parking Authority (only Police Officers can give parking tickets), and we now have the right to carry firearms concealed.

I LOVE IT! It really helps with the dealership politics.

This was about 4-5 years ago. Check it out. You, too are also entitled to a speedy trial.

GET A LAWYER--GET A LAWYER--GET A LAWYER!

anytime you get a ticket spend the money on a lawyer. it is worth it in fines-license points, and insurance.
don't try and fight what the cops say--the judge believes the cops not you.

GET A LAWYER!

1) ALWAYS plead not guilty. Twice in 35 years i plead and the court date was scheduled, and the first time the cop DIED before the trial, and in the second case, another cop did not show up, so i won.

2) get a lawyer

3) in pennsylvania, over the years, i have had several of these excessive tickets. i learned that if you get to the trial early, meet with the cop and then the judge, you can plea bargain down the top speed to something that won't get you alot of points. i am more concerned about points than the actual fine, as in pennsylvania you can lose your license and get big insurance increases. i had a 94 in a 55 reduced to a 75 in a 55, which was much better than instant license loss with the 94. video is pretty incriminating, so this may be your only hope. radar, on the other hand, is 'non-discriminatory' (microwave radar), in the fact that it gives readings on the largest, most vertical reflective surface (a semi will reflect better that your L, thus 'radar profile' numbers you see, listed in feet, in some magazines).

good luck

Question? Did you act courteous to the officer? I have got off too many times to count by just the yes sir, no sir gig. Hell..Nathan..you were only going 35 over the limit....big freakin' deal! I am missing something here...did you get rude to the officer???
SAPD has a big campaign going on to combat 'aggressive driving'. The cop even gave me a nice pamphlet on the subject with my ticket. I was very polite, having learned the proper demeanor to use about 4 tickets ago

I would think that if your friend stayed behind you the whole time on a 2 lane + road that would consitute exhibition of speed, not racing, although I am sure the penalties are comparable. What were the roads like? Weather wise, construction zones? I don't understand the conditions citation. A conditions ticket here would be validated by rain and the possiblity of hydroplaning or a construction area with workers around.
Light traffic, 10pm, dry roads, and Steele was following behind me (not passing) on a 3 lane. Of course, I got a warning for too fast for conditions on this same stretch of road about a month ago. That time, the officer claimed to have clocked me at 75 in a 65 when I politely pointed out that I had my cruise control on and a radar detector that never went off. He then said "Oh, well. It doesnt matter. You were still going too fast for conditions."

The too fast for conditions citation is just a catch-all that they can use to tack on additional fines. Alone, it never stands up with when used in conjunction with other citations it has a better chance of sticking.

Thanks for all the support, I plan to get an attorney on Monday. My court date is in two weeks; I'll let you know how it turns out. If I can get a working scanner, I'll post the tickets as well. Not pretty.
I was pretty bummed last night. While I cant say I'm thrilled, I am feeling much more optimistic. <sigh> Its not going to be cheap though...
