I just went onto TRD website. The new truck you spoke about is rated at 500HP. Makes Ford look lame for sitting back and doing nothing. Sure, the Shelbys are nice, but Ford has forgotten about everyone else, especially the truck guys. Why wouldn't someone buy a Toyota 500HP truck? I would. It's a shame Ford gave up the ghost on the Lightning. They need to ditch the modular motor garbage and come back out with a turbo 351W rated at 550-600HP. Would be easy to do. Other companies are making crazy power per cubic inch with much smaller engines. With Toyota moving so far ahead, Ford is going to lose even more of its base customers.

I just checked their site and all I can see is the Tundra project shown at Sema which was also done a year ago. Is this a kit or a complete vehicle?

So what's the big deal, FRPP already offers Whipple kits for current F-150 as well as Steeda and Roush has the latest Eaton TVS 4 lobe blower. A buddy of mine just installed the TVS on his new Harley.

So where exactly is Ford falling behind here?

It may have big HP but that truck is the UGLIEST thing on the road today (imho)...every time i see one of those i cringe. I'll make a mental note NOT to choose one of those off, anyway. May be faster....but my Ford is wayyyyy better lookin'

Uh, by not even making fun trucks anymore for going on 4 years. The bolt-on kits available for originally non-boosted vehicles don't come anywhere near 500HP. If Ford stayed in the game, or better yet brought back the pushrod 351W, they could be in it again. Even famous race engine builder Ronnie Crawford will tell anybody that the modular motors are pure junk. He has seen even the naturally aspirated ones show up literally breaking apart, such as valves, pistons, etc and the list goes on.

As for the other Toyota haters, I believe Toyota still has quality control and better reliability over Ford, and always has. I still own my Lightning, and still love it. Doesn't mean criticizing Ford for their defeatist attutude these days has to insult anybody. Why anyone wouldn't want to drive a 500HP truck and then modify it and make it even faster because it's not Ford, I don't quite understand. If the quality and looks are there, why not.

This was what I was looking at. I thought this was what one of the posts up top were saying is coming out? http://www.trdusa.com/features.cfm?feature=tundra

From what I can see this is a Sema project vehicle. Last month a guy on NLOC who works at a Toyota dealership posted that Toyota had backed away from the Supercharger kit due to reliability concerns. Now someone here say that its available????

Toyota will not bring a hot roded vehicle to market as they only focus on high volume production where they actually make money. Toyota does not even make a sports car. Their fastest vehicle 0-60 is the Tundra.

The US brands need to focus on their customers and cars that actually make money. Chrysler is wiped out and being prepped for a potential buyer (Renault/Nissan), GM lost 38 billion in the last quarter with a total market cap (value of all outstanding shares) of 14 billion while Ford is just over 12 billion and leveraged to the max. With any further deterioration, it will be a miracle if Ford stays away from Chapter 11. They were just forced by the banks to sell Jaguar/Land Rover for 2 billion after having wasted nearly 30 billion in them since the buyout. Jaguar is a complete failure, having only sold 60,000 vehicles worldwide over 4 product lines in 2007. Land Rover results were even worst. Not pretty uh?

A mild hot roded F-150 purely for marketing reasons; maybe.

Re-engineering old push rod engines to meet current certification, I seriously doubt it.

Toyota quality has been good but the myth behind their marketing hype might be oversold. Ford had quality problems with the new F-150 4 X 4 but so did Toyota with the Tundra. Its amazing how the media were inconspicuous by their virtual absence. Despite all their incredible challenges, it was Ford who won more quality JD Powers awards in 2007 than any other manufacturers.

I mean, the 351 was sick and all, but even chevy, who used pushrod motors in the F-body until their demise, is not using thirty year old motors any more. The 5.4 has a pretty decent aftermarket, especially compared to the Tundra. My best friend is a TRD fanatic. Took the Toyota program in college and has worked for Toyota and now Lexus for years. He has a bagged Tacoma S-Runner that is TRD supercharged (seventh injector and smaller snout pulley), TRD headers, TRD Limited Slip and Ring and Pinion 3.90, and basically TRD everything. Its graced the pages of Mini Truckin' three times now. He has a rock crawling '85 Toyota (think Back to the Future)straight axle front/back on 39's with an exoskeleton. His wife even has a lifted pink Tacoma. His tow pig for his toys is a brand new blue 4 door Tundra. My point is that he is a die hard Toyota TRD guy, yet he still knows whats fast and what isnt. He also realizes that the aftermarket is not near and friendly for his Tundra or S-Runner like it is for my L. I raced the Tundra and it kept up surprisingly well, although at sixty I was starting to pull. The window rolled down and it was his blonde wife driving and I was like. I know if I was in the market for a new custom truck other than my L and something to make fast and look good I would jump on the Tundra. Some don't like the back because it looks like it was already wrecked. I think I can get over that with 381/420.
