How many stock Lightnings are out there? My point is maybe that Tundra was not stock...I know if I ever bought one I would start modding it..I could never drive anything and leave it stock..It's a sickness.lol

Ive never been beat by a Tundra, but I had one try to run me off the road
So I let him go a ways and zipped out at the 2 lane merge over the yellow line and cut his *** off in a matter of 3 seconds from 4 cars back

Haven't had a Tundra try that on me yet, but I did get a Titan one day. Sittin at a stop light and he's looking over at my truck and had sort of a smirk on his face, didn't pay much attention. Light changed, he floored it, caught me a little off guard. Half a block later, I waved bye-bye and I think he might have seen that. Next light he just sort of hung back and waited till I took off before he started rolling and never did come up along side of me again.

The Tundra is really ugly with its plastic skid plate, plastic scoop above the front grill, Camry steering wheel, sissy shifter and very weak frame but the engine and transmission are clearly best in class.

http://fordpickuptruck.blogspot.com/...eek-track.html

-Force 5.7 -- A Force to be Reckoned With

The Tundra's trump card under the hood is an all-new 5.7-liter i-Force V8
that is available in every model configuration. Specifically designed for
full-size pickup applications, the i-Force 5.7 uses a long-stroke
configuration (stroke dimension of 4.02 in. is more than the bore width of
3.70 in.). As a result, in addition to its impressive 381 horsepower at
5,600 rpm, the i-Force 5.7 unleashes 401 lb.-ft of peak torque at 3,600 rpm.

Tundra 4x2 and 4x4 models equipped with the 5.7-liter engine will have
city/highway fuel economy ratings of 16/20 mpg and 14/18 mpg, respectively.

The i-Force 5.7 V8 uses aluminum for the cylinder block and DOHC heads. This
engine's more advanced Dual VVT-i controls valve timing and overlap on both
the intake and exhaust valves, which also helps optimize power, fuel
efficiency and emissions.

On all Tundra engines, the Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) uses
butterfly valves inside intake manifold to switch the length of the intake
tract in two stages, based on rpm and throttle angle, to improve torque
across the engine speed range. Tubular stainless steel headers flow into a
full stainless steel exhaust system with laser-welded, high-capacity mufflers
for optimal efficiency and a commanding, powerful sound.

The i-Force 5.7 and 4.7 share a crank-hold electronic starter control that
uses a "twist and release" ignition switch. The ECM controls the starter
relay to prevent failed starts and "grinding" on a re-start attempt. Both
the 5.7- and 4.7-liter Tundra engines meet the Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle,
or ULEV II, emissions certification.

The i-Force 5.7 is teamed exclusively with a new six-speed automatic
transmission, which is only slightly larger than the five-speed automatic.
Shift logic adapts the transmission's shift maps to driver input.

Both Tundra transmissions use new Toyota "WS" (world-standard) fluid with a
flat viscosity/temperature curve (cold viscosity is close to warm viscosity).
This fluid reduces friction and wear, enables faster vehicle warm-up, and
never needs to be replaced.

Next year, select 2009 Tundra models equipped with the 5.7-liter V8 will
offer flexible fuel capability with E85 ethanol.

This is how you got beat, and you lightning is slow.....

Quote: I have owned my 5.7 RC/SB 4X2 for about 4 months now. Made it out to Bremerton Speedway yesterday where I clocked a 14.137 @ 97.32. I did five or so runs. Never was above 14.27 or so. This
is bone stock.

Quote: I just went to Santa Pod Raceway in England today and ran a 14.42 @ 94.5 mph on pump gas.

So you ran at Bremerton on Sunday then shipped the truck to the UK and ran
today (Monday) (timeslips says 6th October ??? )

Can I have the name of your shipping company. I could hell use that to get to NJ next year and back in the same week

For the record I ran at Santapod bone stock and would have taken you in 2004 anyway long before the built motor went in.

Bring it along to our Rebel meet in March and lets put it to the test against a stock 'L' we have few members with bone stock trucks - only condition I know they will want me to drive it

Ricki,
i think he was quoting other peolpe, dont think both those times are his.

I honestly give props to Yota to get a 4door n/a truck to beat a 4 door srt/10,stock configs. And if the aftermarket supported the tundra like they do the big 3,imo that new 5.7 would be the ultimate platform to start from.Unfortunately the trd s/c coming out may not be intercooled so there is a ceiling on the potential output.STS will prolly be the better option, but again tuning would be a hurdle, but you never know..

I for one am impressed w/them,but for now the L is the standard in truck performance considering all the mods available.

There's always someone faster than you on the street
Ok wait let me re-phrase that, there's plenty faster than Ricki on the street

What Ricki was saying and how you described the race has your answer in it,
he punched it first and it's that simple....

Yes the Tundra has an awesome motor in it, just like the SRT10 Viper Truck,
BUT neither will ever compare to the Lightning in Looks. And for 500.00 in Mods the L will dance all over it NO PROB. And for the record my old Super Jeep (SRT8) would dance all over a stock Lightning too.

Pretty cool kicking L *** in the family TRUCK

ganiman....Ricki's right , I added a Tundra to the stable and took it to England to run in the quarter mile. Cause it makes sense.... more than just quoting times from the Toyota board listed in this thread,.... Did it in record time, Dont have the name of the shipping company cause I drove in up to Canada through Greenland to Norway the took the ferry right over to England.... averaged 21 MPG...

Rob,
Funny you bring up the Super Jeep.A week ago I saw black one pass me by on a 2 lane 25mph street.I noticed the aggressive front end,but when that SOB passed I felt the rumble in my truck.Thats what confirmed it was the srt8.Dont know what exhaust he had,but I felt it(exhaust rumble) go by..Definitely a beast.1st one I ever seen/felt

i wasn't thinking anything of it. i was in a lightning. didnt think he would try anything. guess i'm gonna have to save up 500 bucks and do a little modding. then i really wont have to worry about it.
