Talking bought a 2001 crate motor today!

I bought a brand new 2001 Lightning motor off of e-bay today! I am putting it into an '87 mustang coupe. But, before I do that, I have a question about changing some of the parts from it to my 2000 L. Does anybody know if it is a direct swap to transfer the lower intake with intercooler into my truck? I don't want to tear it apart to find out it is a different bolt pattern or something. Also, if so, can it be done with the engine still in my truck? Should I get new plugs for my truck while I'm there? NGK? I am not sure. Any info would help! Thanks!

It has bneen reported Ford redisigned the bolt pattern between the intercooler assembly and supercharger. Add to that some of the wiring has been moved from one side of the engine to the other.

I would personally just throw it in the mustang and forget about tinkering with the Lightning. It may get the 01 motor professionally installed should something go wrong with it. Give it about 14k miles and you may get a new intercooler.

Goog luck.

I would rather change plugs on a stand than in a vehicle any day.

I bought it for $3500. He said he has a few more that he is putting up for sale on ebay if anyone is interested?!?!? Oh well, I guess I will just put it into the mustang then and not put any of it on my truck. What kind of times do you think it should turn in a 3000# mustang with a 4R70 trans, baumman box, trans-brake, and slicks of course. I am hoping it should be pretty cool!

SSRBOLT, let me know how the install goes. I was planning on doing this myself in the future. I think if tuned right (400rwhp) it should run low to mid 11s at 120mph. With a 100 shot' 10s at 130. Thats what I think and hope. What a cheap 10 sec. car!! Keep us posted on the install!

Just to let you know - the 4R70W won't take that kind of torque for very long.

I'd run nothing higher than 3.55s, maybe even 3.27s in the rear. You don't have much rpm to play with, and with that kind of torque you need to keep it pulling. With a custom chip/cold air intake/headers/off-road pipes you should see high teens, maybe even 125. If you can hook it up, you should get low 11s. That's a god-awful lot of torque for a Mustang.

A 4R70W can handle that much power easily, as long as its built right, just like any other trans.

i have a 99 lightning motor that i've been working on for awhile now, coating parts, custom headers, ported heads, etc.. its going into a 92 f-150, how are you planning on wiring your motor? there are a couple options that are be worked out but nothing out yet that i have found, which i'm not ready yet anyways. i would be interested in what you are planning on doing and maybe exchange some ideas if you would like.

Baumman makes a race ready 4r70 trans that they have in a car going 10.20's. The car is a 90-91 fox box with a T-trimmed 4.6. They said it has about 100 runs down the track so far with no problems.
