Smoked a Lighning Yesterday!!!!
I cant believe my ears. This guy comes in here ant tells us about how he beat a lightning and how they both were completly cool about it and all of a sudden you guys start bashing him.Read the post,This guy was not coming off as a jerk,he just was telling us he beat one.At 13.8@101,It would be an awesome race to a stock lightning.Big deal. Give him some slack. We do not hear of many cars or trucks that beat us so when they do why dont you try being a little interested rather than being too harsh.nevermind a 4dr sedan.CONGRATS TO THIS GUY!! He just accomplished what most BMWs cannot do.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A modded GTP that's pulling 13.8's might take a stock lightning off the line if it grips first...most stock L's are around that number here...13.8-14.2... I was wondering how our Eaton Brothern GTP's performed when modded.
Just FYI, my first 3-digit speed run in my Bolt was against a WS-6 t-top on Rt80... starting from about 50mph when we cleared traffic, we were dead even until about 120, then he started to pull up on me (he was one car length behind me coming out of traffic). If we hadn't hit more traffic, he probably would have over taken me at about 130mph. This is when I was stock.
At 120mph, the aerodynamics of the WS-6 have a bit of an advantage.

I hate to be a traitor to the lightning crowd since I own one, but Daniel, there is no way you "hung" with a brand new ws6, they have almost as much horsepower and are alot lighter, not to mention do 0-60 in 5.0 to our 5.6, ws6 are one bad TA and they will eat lots of Ford for breakfast until we decide to invest into some products, I had an experience like yours with a 00 Camaro SS, but a ws6 would even spank the SS, remember that a Ws6 TA is not a regular TA, it has a Ram-air hood and looks like a dragon head that will eat any car that stands in front of it, havent you seen the commercial?
I know the WS-6 is the RamAir model, why do you think I was thirlled to give a have-at-it. And as I said, from 60-120, we were just about even, then at 120mph, he started to move up on me. This wasn't from 0-60, we were already moving 60....
The WS6 is quick, but it not going to smear our Bolts all over the place stock...Look at the 1/4mi times...they're faster, but not to the point where they leave us in the dust. I almost bought one instead of my Bolt when I was shopping for a new car...and hehe, with the WS6's lateral of .84g's, our Bolts handle better.

To those L owners feeling that GTP "doesn't" rule is getting flamed for nothing... go look at the Expedition/Navigator board.
The guy is just some troll, period. He needs to act like a grown-up. Most people who are secure in their masculinity do not need to go to another manufacturer's board and pound their chest.
He likes Pontiacs and Dodge Durangos. I chose a couple of Mustangs, a Lightning and an Expedition. TO EACH HIS OWN!

I'm keeping my mouth shut on this! I was laid off from my job, so no new Lightning for me. But hey, hah, I'll still run the guy in my SLOWmaro...uh I mean, Camaro.
Oh, BTW, Jeffhou (i think that's how it's spelled.) The SS Camaro is faster than the WS6. In course runs, 1/4, and is even better in breaking. Car and Driver tested the SS, WS6 and I believe it was the Cobra, all 2000's. SS was #1, WS6 (at a close) #2, and then the Cobra.

Just for the heck of it, I want to tell you about my experience meeting a 99 Lightning owner.
He had the truck 3 weeks, had never been to a drag strip ever. Didn't even know how to stage a vehicle at the line.
I got friendly with him and was giving him some helpful advice.
He had shorts on, so I let him borrow a pair of sweat pants and a helmet.
His 1st pass, he left in drive and had a 1.256 light. he ran a 13.84.
I convinced him the truck wouldn't blow up if he manually shifted at 5000 rpms, & told him to leave on the last yellow.
He then went 13.70 @ 101 with a .573 light.
He was happy, but I still got the feeling he wasn't sure what was going on.
The new Lightnings are simply badass in the right hands.
IMO if you can't get into the 13s bone stock, there is something wrong with your truck.

I believe a stock L will hang to 60, but our trucks arent highway cars, I raced a 00 camaro SS on the highway, drop down from 60, I hung until about 80 when he decided to pull on me, I dont know maybe he wasnt stock then but he had the dealer tags on it, anyway my point is that ws6's are faster than camaro SS, and the SS beat me on the highway, maybe he had a chip or something.
By the way I was in denial of how fast our truck is, I hadnt until yesterday witnessed a lightning breaking into the 8's stock.
I was at kennedale yesterday and I managed a 8.967, which is awesome compared to my first run when I had 500 miles (9.33), I am impressed I must say.

Jeffhou,
What are you seeing out of stock, near stock WS6 cars at Kennedale?
My L has run a best of 8.48 and is consistently in the 8.5-8.6 range (1/8 mile) on stock F1s. It's not a bone stock truck, but very typical of a truck with $500 in mods.
My brother's '99 Ram-Air WS6 with a 6-spd. runs mid, low-13s on radials. He's not a real experienced driver at all, though. It does run 107-108mph through the traps, so its a solid 12-sec car with an experienced driver and any sticky tire at all. On the highway, I would not be able to keep up with him...but 0-90, I'd win.
Oh, and his car is not stock, either. 335-340rwhp. It ran 104-105mph through the traps stock and 13.69 ET was his best...spinning hard, of course.
