Gregg were both getting real pissed off here, you for not wanting to hear me or others offer possible reasons, and me seeing you question everything
because your feeding into the BS here.
Then on top of that I got to put up with 03 Rocks putting my name and guilty in the same sentence, and other wonderful statement like this one here

So now I'll say one last thing before I leave this post forever, FK everybody that thinks this is some kind of conspiracy I used that Lightning day in and day out from the day I bought it to the day I sold it. Ed paid well over 17K just to have it built in Aug of 05, then another few K in Trans, Suspension, Rims, etc. I bought it in the fall of 06 with a little over 3000 miles on that build. I immediately put 5K+ in it and as said enjoyed it day in and day out for at least 3 wonderful months in a row. I've changed the oil + filter twice, I've changed the fuel filter, it was properly tuned, then de-tuned for the upcoming colder weather, AND IT LEFT HERE TROUBLE FREE RUNNING ABSOLUTELY PERFECT IN EVERY WAY.

NOW GOOD BYE!!!

You too Rob? You have been around here long enough to know that all forms of criticism will be posted...good and bad..It would be nice if this failure would be figured out by the "mechanic" before summer...

Yup, way too early to know what it was.

Does anyone know what head bolts were used with this engine? And, is there any chance they weren't retorqued after a few heat cycles?

I believe that Chi didn't beat on the thing so why would a built motor have this type of failure?

ChiTown,
It's too bad this has been your initial experience with the truck and this forum. One of the downsides to public discussion is that it allows all the knuckle-head know-it-alls to speculate ad nauseum. I don't care how smart anyone is the post mortem on this engine won't be done by keyboard. Hopefully your mechanic has some mod motor experience and can help you figure it out. Good luck.

I just spoke to the mechanic taking the truck apart. It's not my place to say what he found, that's up to Gregg. But what I can say, is that you'll all be surprised at what the suspected cause was, and it had nothing to do with Rob, Gregg, or myself. Nor did it have to do with abuse, poor gas, or really any other reason mentioned in this thread.

Who re-torques the head bolts on these motors?

Are you saying everybody should install their motors, heat cycle them then strip everything back down to the head bolts to re-torque?

I have never heard of anyone doing that or being told to do that from their engine builder.

In those temps you dont want to throw that kind of power at anymotor
Now this is my favorite post, in this insane thread on FRobsblog150online. "Wind chill" apparently effects the inlet air temp. PRICELESS!

Stuck fuel injectors...what else would cause two rods to mysteriously bend if it weren't some kind of liquid in the cylinders?

Neener neener neener...

We THINK we know what it was... I will know more under further investigation. Until then I keep my mouth shut, I don't want all of the flamers, flaming away and blaming my "pocket rocket" knowledge about this truck.

But I will say.. it had NOTHING to do with as Sal posted above with..... Rob or Sal or Gregg or The Tries Guys or The Oil change guys or Cold or Tune or Head bolts or My dog or My Mom or Driving it back to Chicago or Stuck fuel injectors.. ... Details to come soon..
