radar dectors
I can attest to the Oklahoma speed traps, esp the R.A.I.D. units we have roaming around. I have the V1 and it has saved my butt countless times: and for those from OK, esp in the town of Moore. I am very satisfied and can say without a doubt that I would buy another for the next vehicle I purchase.

So far, it seems the consensus of opinion is the Valentine is the best detector. As I have not used a detector in years (it was a Cincinnati Microwave unit), I was wondering how good the Valentine is in screening out background impulses (electonic) such as automatic door openers, etc., which always seemed to set off some of the old detectors?

The V1 has 3 screening settings. In the city I run mine on max screen. It still picks up door openers but at low strength, and you see 3-6 hits on the counter. When it detects a door around here it lights up 1-3 leds and passes from in front to side to behind real quick. It has one **** - For volume and on off. If you push the **** it quiets the false alarms to a preset volume. It also tells you what it picked up X band K band or KA.
I used a Passport years ago and this is much better cause it gives you enough info to tell if it is a real radar signal or not.
I dont hit the brakes till it shows 4-5 leds and is making lots of noise.

I would like some opinions also on redlite's points. I tend to get dismissive of my economy model Whistler when it's going off every 15 mins on the expressway and no cops in sight. How are the Valentines, climb on the binders when it goes off, or will it be a false alarm(as are the majority of mine).

4D THNDR - You are always going to get some false alarms. It won't matter what brand you get. With all of the info the V1 gives you it is pretty easy to figure out which ones you can ignore. When on the highway I pay closer attention than when I'm in town. Main reason being I'm not as temped to speed in town and the traffic around here is very heavy. Also you tend to learn where the false alarms are in your area. With the V1 boogy counter you can see if there is something new in the usual count. The V1 is the best I've used but that is JMHO.

I just bought a V1, last week.
I wasn't sure about it, given the cost, but I was swayed by the fact that I've never heard anyone who has bought one, say they later regretted the purchase.
IMO the bogey counter and directional arrows make it much more useful than other detectors I have owned. It still falses, but the filter modes are very good, and the indicators make it fairly obvious what's going on.
I'm happy with the purchase so far.

Let me give you an example. I have a V1 and an Escort Solo 4 that I use in my truck. With my V1 on, turning on the Escort in the truck makes the V1 go Crazy. With the Escort on, turning on the V1 has no effect. In other words, the Escort is radiating scads of spurious signal (despite being touted as being undetectable by other detectors) and the V1 is undetectable. If both units are on, the V1 alerts so far in advance of the Escort that you might as well not have the Escort powered. I have had many Escort models and rate them highly but the V1 is far superior!
