radar dectors
Bearit, you should also check the K40 model radar detectors. They have a good reputation and make some excellent products. Their website is: www.K40.com
Definately a brotherhood. a local case last week, a Mississippi trooper in charge of the drunk driving task force, was himself drunk and hit 2 New Orleans Police Officers on shoulder of I-10 (maiming them) and left the scene. both officers (young family men) are now disabled and in wheelchairs, showed up for the trail last week and pleaded with the judge for a reduced sentence for the officer that hit them. they said they did not want a fellow officer to go to jail, it worked. probation only
V1 is best I have ever used. It has saved me a couple times already. I have to admit I dont understand the value of the remote displays. I dont care if the guy behind me sees the lights going off....
The Counter and the direction arrows are big reasons why I like it even though others dont approve of the features. The reason the direction arrows or counter may be slow to update - for example you just passed the cop but the arrow still shows him in front. - radar bouces in every direction off everything it hits - the detector is using this reflected data, and trying to count how much is coming from this direction and how much form the other, it then determines the source based on the strongest signals.

Professional Courtesy actions between doctors is oerforming a procedure to help or enhance.... Doctors are obligated to help or enhance, and it's their business what fees they charge.
"Professional Courtesy" by an officer of the law is looking the other way while a criminal act is being committed. This allows the person who gets the "courtesy" to get by without paying the fine (fee). This fee is set democratically, and is NO BUSINESS of the officer who is waving the fee.
BOTH officers using "Professional Courtesy" are VIOLATING THE LAW!

The v-1 is great but up here, these things are illegal. With all of the microcomputer technology, you'd think Mike Valentine could shrink the thing down a little bit. It's impossible to hide and looks like a small T.V. receiver in my truck. No thanks. I'll wait for something smaller. Where these are legal to use...you are lucky!!!

Does anyone use a cordless detector? I realize that none of them would be a sensitive as a V1, but they would be a lot more convenient, and, what the heck, I think a cordless would be a lot better than nothing?

Sorry your offended, pal. However if you read the posts which have followed your original posting, you can see how you stirred the pot with your comment concerning the power of your badge. You might try working to build good will between the officers who post here and the private citizens who do not wish to hear about "professional courtesy" and have it rubbed in their faces.
And as for my security business, I currently manage the security ops. for the two largest wineries in the world, both here in the central valley of California. So I guess one could say my business is pretty good.

Thanks to all that have responded. And to mjb, whose response prompted other discussion, my feeling on that subject is that I personally have resolved myself to the fact that you guys live by the motto of "don't do as we do, do as we say do." And since ya'll got the guns and radios, we don't have much choice. You can't outrun us, so either shoot us or call ahead for a bud to put out the strips. So in my yearly family budget, I put in a ticket amount and keep right on trucking. I have an insurance that does not go up regardless of my ticket status. So catch me if you can.
Valentine seems to be the choice of the responders. Valentine.com does not work so does someone know their on line address.
Thanks

Calm down guys!
We know it happens and we can't change it!
To move on:
I have had all of Escort's radar detectors, including the cordless ones. They (the cordless ones) are completely useless.
I have received V1 warnings (from the rear)from a measured distance of over 8 miles! I have received V1 instant on warninings (lighting somone else, I presume) from over 1/2 mile and around two corners. Nothing else even comes close.
Sell your bike, lawnmower, kids or house to get the V1. It's worth every penny.
Try it, you will never go back to a different brand.
Jeez, I should get a commission for this!

You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! LOL
I just had traffic school a couple weeks ago. The instructor, a patrol officer of 10 yrs. or something, proudly announced that he does not issue traffic citations to other officers, or to teachers. When that pissed everyone off he said "what makes you think this is about being fair?" When you give certain individuals more power than others, both on the street and in court, certainly some of those individuals will abuse that power, purposely or not. THATS THE TRUTH!

mjb1206, the practice of letting fellow officers off on traffic tickets is clearly an abuse of police powers. It undermines the confidence that the public has in law enforcement. No one can be above the law if everyone is to abide by the law. This goes for the president of this country on down. Profesionl courtesy is something done between porfesionals and is not done at the expense of the public. The fact that this distinction has been lost on you concerns me as we count on you to enforce the laws of the land. I can see now why the FBI has been increasingly investigating local law enforcement agencies. The public can now pay for police and then pay again for the FBI to watch the police. This whole process is a little dicouraging. I hope you understand my message. Lets lead by example.
Disgusting (mjb1206)!
I've maintained that there are three reasons that someone becomes a cop (an none of them are "...because I want to help people...":
1) In it for The 'Game' -- where one pits one's wit against another (the 'bad guy') - and can do so within the rules -- usually ends up in Internal Affairs -- a true person to look up to.
2) The "it's just a job -- nothin' personal" cop -- Usually the guy helping at court -- or talking at the grade school or teaching others at the academy.
3) What I call the "Little Di@k Syndrome" - where he couldn't fit in without help. Uses the badge to be 'one of the boys' -- and/or to get away with something. Uses the badge to gain recognition since he's never done anything worthy of recognition by himself.
Number 2 is who I want around. He is the soft-spoken guy who you never know is a cop.
Sounds like you're number 3 -- for which you have my contempt.
