You want the "NEWEST" Ford Design Head Core
The head has been totally re-designed with A LOT of little changes. I had the oppurtunity to see the new and old design side by side with Jim of JDM pointing out all the changes, the changes are suttle but they add up to a much better head design.

JDM then sends the Core out for CNC porting, it's an exclusive JDM Design, the angle of the intake and exhaust ports are changed, I believe a little work is done where the springs seat, of course a triple angle Valve Job, Over Sized Stainless Steel Valves, Titanium Retainers, bla bla bla....

I truly belive JDM has thee best heads out there at this time, I would give them a call if your in the market.

AND HEY GOOD HEAD IS HARD TO FIND

Here's a few pic's of mine (including the part number of Fords new design)

(you could pass a small farm animal through those ports I tell you) hehehehe...

The only reliability issues with the Ford 5.4 heads were the spark plug threads. This was corrected by Ford beginning in 2003. There are no after market 5.4 head castings. They are all Ford. So to answer your question, get 2003+ heads.

Nothing "new" about that head. It's the same part number as the heads that were on your original 02 motor.

Sal could ALL the new Ford Cores now be the new design, (while maintaining the original part #) ??? I got to assume that because I did see the side be side that night and as said although the changes were not huge, they did all add up. I def saw changes around the doul area with the new design, plus a tad more surface area for sealing the head gasket, threads in the heads, and I remember some other changes pointed out to me.

Maybe it's like my new NVH block, I believe all new 5.4's are now NVH's, and prob maintain the orig part number, (maybe ??? I guess ???, hehehehe...)

It definitely wouldn't have the same part number. It's very possible the head was updated, as we know the 03+ heads were different. But the part number picture that you posted, is identical to your stock heads sitting here on the floor.

Since we are on the subject of heads, are there any faults in using heads with bronze valve guides? Just wondering because I have seen both bronze and steel guides used in these heads.

Livernois is the best option if he's looking for more power but i think that's not his case.

Prove that it's the best. Why did you bump a 6 month old thread?
