my motor woes

ok here it goes
so i went to the shop today that is/was tearing my new and now shot built motor down, and there is nothing all that good to say so i will start with the list of what needs to be done to make this one work again
Crank- needs to be fully turned as three areas where the rods connect are so scored it makes your ***** hurt
Block- needs to be lined honed with a tq plate because the cylinders are not round and apperantly not honed in the first place with a tq plate bolted down
Pistons- all need to be scraped cause if i hone that block they wont fit anymore
Rings- factory Ford rings are not a good idea if you are building a motor that is going to see more heat than stock so yeah they will be replaced too, oh yeah be a good idea to not line them up either on this build so oil doesnt get by
Rods- well 5 out of 8 aint bad. yes 3 need to be replaced cause they look like a mysticchrome cobra on the big end
Heads- they are ok except for 4 burnt valves but that is cause the motor was burning so much oil. why was the motor burning oil you ask? see Rings above.

so i am not the happiest guy around but hey what am i gona do. i plan to call the orignal builder of this motor to see if he can do anything to help but i am not sure how that is going to go seeing as i told him about what happened and he was adament that it wasnt his short block that was causing the issues ( eating oil like it was going out of style) and said it was the heads. but the heads have turned out to be in pretty fine shape minus the new valves needed and all the seals replaced ( might as well do it while the this is apart)

so if you have questions or advice go for it. anything you can think of that i should ask please post up
and thanks for hearing me vent a bit

Thanks dude...I can never remember if its Beam, or Bean...even with 2-3 half full bottles of it on the shelf! (goes great with gingerale!)

Now back on topic....

Mike I hope things work out for ya....I hope the original builder steps up to the plate and gives it an honest diagnosis....keep us informed!

You screwed up if you did not let the original builder tear it down.........If the original builder tore it down to inspect you could have gotten help from him if it was a recent build.

country_duck had some good short term advice ( a little bourbon can take away the pain)........or long term advice...only he knows.

P.S. country_duck you have a few interesting mods in your sig.

Custom installed CB Radio and Dual antennae
Custom "Back-up"/"Anti-Tailgater" lights

Mike, Its people like you who make me wonder sometimes why i even stay in this buisness,But i think of all the Honest/good people we deal with every day and thats what helps us to keep going.. Yes this a a JLP Engine he is talking about (1 of several hundreds) i might add..about 5 months ago i get a call from mike and he says his JLP SB has about 6000 miles on it and its no good! its using a ton of oil. i said really, what heads are you using? he told me and said they had bronze guides. i told him when we used to use bronze guides a long time ago we had oil cunsumption problems! that was his issue..But if you believe its the SB and you want us to stand behind it,then bring it here and we'll tear down the engine and see if there is a problem. He said he didn't have the $ to do that...Now about 5-6 months later he e-mails me saying, he had his heads checked out and they were fine EXCEPT for 4 Burnt Valves ..I wonder how the valves got burnt? No Doubt LEAN...And Now it has a engine Knock!, the SB is what caused all these issues..He goes on tells me how he decided to have his engine builder do the tear down and Find out what was wrong with the engine! The engine builder tells him that the SB was never machined properly, never was there a torque plate used to bore/hone the engine! the rings were all installed improperly!,the rods were not installed properly, therefor an engine knock resulted,we used factory rings which are the wrong rings to use!,the bores were out of round.the rings never would seat up properly!.ect,ect..and it goes on and on! He then tells me he understands how an engine like this can get thru a batch once in awhile ....Mike either you have serious issues, or your engine builder does!..I know this there is No Way a JLP SB will EVER have these issues you claim! Now i know why you didn't want us to take a look at this engine,You leaned it down and burned it up bottom line! and now you think you can use these boards to spread 1/2 truths/lies and make our JLP Engines Look like they are JUNK! We'll friend your Mistaken We @ JLP Go above and beyond to produce the Highest Quality Engine on The Planet!..And have several hundreds out there proven this everyday!its sad to see this kind of pathetic attempt to try and pass the Buck!...and make it look like it was your JLP SB which caused all these issues!
You might say i never mentioned JLP! ...Not yet anyhow! But you have with you pm's to everybody..Guy if we @ JLP built and engine like you and your engine builder described i would give up! Count my loses and shoot myself!...JL

your right i must have serious issues
i am sorry that we could not resolve this thru our e-mails. i was going to suggest that i tote this motor down to you so you could have a look at it and see what you think (seeing as i am wrong) but i guess i wont suggest it and waste my gas for the ride.
i havent mentioned your name to anyone, only person i have been in contact with was Rob cause i knew he had a short block laying around that he was not useing.
as for my tune being lean and burning up the valves, wouldnt burning oil do that??? if not i guess you better give JJ a call cause it was his tune in the truck.
or is that just your way of passing the buck, nice of you to do to a friend
and if you need to come at me sideways with such hostility please hurry up and cut your losses

.
yeah your kinda right
if i could have sent the truck down i would have, but at the time i was broke from putting a new motor in my truck. and then what is to say if it was the motor that JL would admit it and fix it or just say my heads are junk and now he still has my truck. now thats a position i want to be in

There are more than just ONE of your motors out there JL that have oil consumption problems.... I can think of 3 off hand... Its always someone elses fault. You want the truck in your hands so you can say it was. I have yet to hear a story on the forums about how you fixed anyones truck after they had shipped it to you, because you made a mistake. OHHH yeah thats right you don't make mistakes. Have a wonderful day.
