Sorry to hear about your troubles. I had problems with JLP years ago. Have not bought anything from them since. Customer service sucked backed then also.

Sounds like my Tommy@ Outrageous Performance problem that never got resolved. He would not admitted anything either. I know 4 people with engine problems that Tommy won't fix.

mike, you are ready now to bring me the SB after you guys tore everything down? All you had to do was bring it back when i told you. and we would have tore it down checked everything right in front of your own eyes. if there was aproblem with it i would have giving you a new SB and paid for all your expenses, but you choose not to do it why? Its because it was burned up you admit you burned 4 valves! Sorry guy a SB won't cause you to burn 4 valves. (regardless of what your being told)its your tune or something wrong with the fuel system LEAN! thats it! and we all know what other damages can take place after leaning an engine down like that..You had the choice to bring it to us but chose not to! I can see other engine builders stand behind there engines after someone has tore it down! Right! That just don't happen friend...JL

Not sure how long this thread will remain active but I'll throw in a +1 here for a JLP short block that drank oil. It's out now and a new, locally built motor is in. The heads were fine, btw. No burnt valves and no guide problems. The rings weren't lined up, though, like Mike said his were. I haven't taken the time to check the cylinders for roundness but I still have the SB in the shop and I will do this. The new motor has the same heads with different cams - no oil consumption. It's about to undergo conversion from a KB to a GT42-76 in a couple weeks.

JL offered for me to take the truck to him but the cost for the transport was too great. I am sure there are people who have no issues with their motors and then there are the people like me and others that do. If you are close physically or you don't mind spending a couple thousand $ on transport costs, you can send it back. If not, well, you are screwed. My advice: do business with someone local to you on something that isn't a bolt-on. I learned that lesson the hard way.

JL
i offered to bring it down to you now because i can. i now have the time and money to be able to make the trip.
i am happy that you dont have to worry about money and time off work but some of us do and the truck takes a backseat to that.
again i did have the tune checked and the a/ f was great. IMO JJ's tune was right on and the motor made good power.
you still didnt say if burning large amounts of oil would funk up the valves, anyone else be able to shed some light on this matter? no need to get involved just a simple copy and paste.

again JL sorry we couldnt resolve this thru our own e-mails as i wish we could have. oh and please stop calling me friend, you are obviously not

i dont know where you got this from, in our facility Dante's Modular Performance we never had a JL engine concern,& we had work in customer vehicles with jl powertrains for other concerns :fuel concerns, etc. just to clarify things. DANTE

All I know is that in similar threads, JL comes on after the fact, and makes the person look like a criminal, while JL offered to personally say a prayer for the motor and resurect it. He should have helped out before it got to this point. As for the toons...doesn't JJ just use canned JL toons? I would be carefull about blaming it on that, JL.
MIke....I hope everything gets worked out man.

thanks man, and i understand that a tune will screw some stuff up but a bad tune isnt going to make a motor drink 5 qts of oil, do you agree??

This is why you always but from someone within in Driving distance... There is a quality engine builder within driving distance of almost everyone on this board... My engine builder is less than 200 miles from me...

Before I started modding out my Lightning I called all the go fast lightning specific people to see who I liked the best. The only 2 people that gave me the time of day were Johnny and JJ. I have done a lot of business with both of them. After I started getting more serious with the truck I mainly stayed with Johnny because he did more with where I wanted the truck to go. After I blew up my stock block I talked to Johnny about building a motor. He showed me what went into building his motors and how he gets the power out of them. I was impressed with them and I loaded my truck up in the trailer and drove out there. When he was done with the truck it looked and ran better than factory. Johnny is a absoultly great guy who values his customers and for as busy as he is has good customer service. I have called him with issues at 10pm on sundays and he is there helping me out. Johnny has gone out of his way many times to help out his customers. Johnny would not ever build a motor like that. Building motors like that would ruin his reputation and this business is a very small nitch industry where bad news travles fast and he would be out of business. He has stayed in business by being a very fair, hard working, devoted pashionate business owner who wants to provide the best products out there for his customers. As for the oil consumption problems I say that is due to improper breakin process. All these people are all about beating the snot out of the motor as soon as they get it and not letting the rings seat or any of that stuff. I have over 10000 miles on my motor and have not had any oil consumption problems. When I drive the truck everywhere it goes it is normally getting beat on and the motor is perfect. No Oil Problems!!!!! Johnny would not intentionally do anyting to make customers mad. It just does not make sense. I would tell anyone to go there because of the treatment I have recieved and the way the product works.

the motor was broken in as properly as one could do so, even at the 5000 mile mark it was not ridden hard and put away wet as some would say. that motor was only spun high ( as in to redline) one time and that was to check out the a/f of the tune i was running and it was on a dyno. other than that it never made it over 4000rpm's
glad you have had good luck with him, i did not
