Lost a Motor on the Dyno!!

Well the motor let go on my 04 Lightning. It has 9K on the ODO, and it was on the dyno on its first pull. From what I am told it threw a rod at 4200RPM and it only had 7 DEGREES of timing at the time. Boost was 19PSI. Mods were KB, Long Tubes, C&L intake, KN Filter, Borla exhaust, SCT meter and chip, Accufab TB, 3000 Stall converter, and built trans. I am stunned at the fact that the L let go on the dyno??? I could see it letting go on the strip with slicks and a load on it, but on the dyno, come on.... Anyways, I just bought a JLP longblock w\ Stage 2 cams and I will be installing it on Wednesday. I hope that this motor is a little stronger than this one was. What really blows my mind is that my 01 has 46K on it and had almost the EXACT same mods on it and the motor is running GREAT!

I truely believe it is very hard to lose a block on the dyno without an error from a tuner... Especially one with 9k... But, sometimes it might even happen to good tuners...

I am hoping for the ARIZONA equivalent of a NJ or MD 10 second pass with this truck... We shall see!!

ummm what is the arizona equivalent???

Yeah, I'd also be saving for a built block.

Hate to say it, but ........told you so.

At least you seem to have no problems financially like most people.

Also, i've heard of quite a few Lightnings loosing motors on the dyno, especially with a KB and stock block.

7 degrees of timing????????????

Don't feel bad I blew one on the dyno also. It only had 7000 miles and was only 8 months old. 17 lbs boost. I guess it was just a weak motor. Good luck with the JLP motor. That is what I went with also, but I got the stage 3 cams.

Why so much boost?I would not go over 16psi on a stock block. I no there is no load on the dyno but still too much boost on a stock block.

I ask the same question. I guess some people just can make the power on decent boost levels>??? I put down well over 500RWHP on 16PSI. That was what now, over 2yrs ago. -Mat-

No load on a dyno?

That is when you have the most load on the motor. How do you think they come up with the hp and torque numbers?by pulling them for a radom number?NO.WOT all the way to redline.Way harder on a motor than anypass down a drag strip would be!Stan

A dyno is loading the drive train. They are designed to simulate running on the road. Also sounds like you should have known better. Maybe your stall is too low. Maybe your shop teacher can help?

I don't get over here much anymore, but I have to sign in on this one. You think this guy might have a girlfriend in Bakersfield?

A Bakersfield, California woman received a phone call from her estranged
boyfriend telling her that he placed a pipe bomb outside the house in the
bushes and that he was going to blow her up along with the house. So, she
went outside and, lo and behold, she saw the bomb.

If you or I were told there was a bomb outside our home, we'd get the police
ON THE TELEPHONE from some other location (we wouldn't have even gone to
look for it either). But if you're a bonehead you load your three children
into the pickup truck, along with the bomb, and start DRIVING AROUND WITH
THE BOMB looking for the police to give it to.

Fortunately, she located the police before the bomb went off.

And what say the police? The sergeant emphasized that anyone who finds a
bomb should get away from it and call law enforcement. Amazing that some
people need to be told to get away from a bomb.
