sorry about that, It's just i'm a police officer and it seems like people always blame the officers when the suspect crashes... I have been in chases in which people have died, and it is very sad, but the reason chases have sky rocketed is because a lot of departements refuse to chase under any circumstance... Me... I don't chase in rush hour unless it is VERY serious... I try and use my head and I am as safe as possible... Everyone needs to remember, there is no chase when the suspect pulls over... I think some very harsh sentences when people run might help...

nice

well put. Officers have to make a decision on when to call if off. If you are behind him and you get his plate number, you can run it and the officer will know who he's dealing with. If it's Joe Nobody that doesn't have a a scratch on his record and he decides to run at 5 in the afternoon............

If it's Joe Somebody that has 2 outstanding warrants and it's 11 at night and is not in a thickly settled area, get him!!!.

I have brefiely contimplated what I would do if I ever tried to run. My luck my fuel line would come off the pump, and plug would spit, coil pack would go out, driveshaft would break, tranny would fry or my f'n motor would pop!! Talk about adding insult to injury.

One flaw in your understanding, what if the guy jacked the car? One reason why I alway's put my hand's in plain sight for the officer and never give them poop.

Very well said 35th!!

i agree with Master of Pain in the sense that chases can hurt bystanders, other vehicles, and other police officers.

I don't agree in the sense that if you put up a chase you should be let go just because you put up a chase--that's just not right. In that sense, if I didn't feel like getting pulled over, then I can just floor it a little and they'd have to quit chasing me? lol, no

just do like michigan and have helicopters sitting at the base of random hills. those should prove to be fun to outrun.

.... oh, and this guy is a dillhole.... did/does anyone know him? I'm sure SOMEONE lives in his area and has "seen him around" or met him.

I think I read or saw somewhere that a large percentage of chases were stolen cars.
35th, do you happen to know any stats?

yeah

Good point. I didn't think of that. Hopefully the car is reported stolen so they know I guess. I just don't think it's worth killing innocent people over unless the people being persued are KNOWN criminals. For instance, they just robbed a bank or something. Or just murdered someone.

Alot of people who run are just dumb. They have a stupid little bag of pot on them or something and end up getter arrested for failing to stop, marked lane violtions, failing to yield, driving to endanger, leaving the scene of an accident, vehicular homocide.............and possesion of a class x drug or controled substance.

Like I said, it's up to the officer.

I remember when I was young, I grew up in a city just north of Boston. We lived on a dead end street near a huge ball field. All the neighborhood kids used to play outside and there would always be people in the street, or crossing the street going to the field and playground. One day we happened to be in the yard swimming and all in the sudden we heard squealing tires , crashing, reving of engines........sounded like the monster mile outside the yard. Then we heard all this comotion.

Turns out the cops were chasing a couple guys that held up a local bank, they all came around the corner sideways and bounced off the guard rail in front of my house and were squealing tires chasing these guys that tried to ditch the car down the dead end street. Luckily for some reason there was no games or anything going on that day. I remembered how pissed everyone in the neighborhood was about it. Stupid.

You can't outrun radios. So if the guy takes off, radio dispatch where he's heading and another officer can look for the vehicle. If he get's away, he get's away. He'll get caught eventually but killing people chasing a guy who ran a stop sign is stupid. I understand that the car could be stolen but what are the chances of someone driving a car that hasn't been reported stolen yet who starts a high speed chase.............
