Question What should I do with this thing.

Well I got my old motor back from JDM today. So after some thinking I would figure I should ask you all what I should do. Tommy will not answer emails, IMs or phone calls after saying he would buy the motor back. Here are the choices:

Post the motor for sale AS-IS, needing to be gone thru, with all the good internals still, heads and cams.

Take the motor apart, see what is good and sell the parts seperately.

Lastly: there probably are no good parts, just throw it in the ocean.

I need to figure out a way to get money and choices 1 and 2 seem to be the only way to go.

Also, please don't post that you want to buy anything as it is not a for sale add and the post will get closed.
Thanks, -Mat-

Mount it in your bed for some added traction with lemons glued to it and a sign saying built by Tommy(comp name) Fixed by JDM.Go to every major event and run 11s all day long.I think that should stir his hand to write you a refund check.

Personally I would try and recoup some of the loss.

I am sure an experienced wrench would take it off your hands. It is still a built motor.

Just be honest when selling it.

It might just be enough to keep you from selling your L.

From your post it sounds like it's still together. Did Jim just do a motor swap? I thought you said they were going to tear it down and find what was wrong with it? If that didn't take place, I'd say your first step is to tear it apart and see what's good and bad. You can't really do anything with it until you know what's up with.

The reason JDM did not tear down the engine is because Tommy agreed to buy it back. I did not want to give it back to him in pieces then have him point fingers about this and that. I pulled the heads off today and am disgusted with what I have seen so far. I will borrow a digital camera and take pictures of EVERYTHING, it is a disgrace to build a motor like this one is built. I have seen some butchered up transmissions come thru my shop being a tranny rebuilder but this motor might take the cake. Now I know why he had excuses to why the heads were not flow tested. They were intake gasket matched with a dremel if that. No smoothing at all. The bowls are untouched. Some of the head studs were installed with vise grips or plyers. The top of the block is "machined" with a die grinder. Anyone who works on cars should know the term "wizzer wheel" well it looks like that is what was used to make sure the deck was "flat." The block certainly doesn't look like a brand new 03'-04' block. Looks like it had a lot more wear then which it should have being I never put close to 1,000 miles on it. The part number starts with "2L" wouldn't that be for a 02' block>??? Like I said, I will get some pictures and post them up. This makes me sick! -Mat-

u could at least file a claim with small claims court, might not cover the entire thing but u wouldn't have to pay for a lawyer and u could get at least 5grand back...just a thought, he can't ignore a court date...

Not to be rude, but why would you go to somebody that would build an engine that is not an engine builder? Hell, I can put a motor together, but I know it probably would not last as long as one built by a pro engine shop. Sorry for all your trouble, tuff way to learn. Hope you get it straightened out.

Mat,
You're on the right track. Document everything with the digital and have witnesses. Go the small claims route and sell the good parts. Display the bad parts at every event you attend. Get written expert opinion on the condition of the bad parts.

Mat,
IMHO you need to tear down the motor, document all of the shoddy workmanship and take his a$$ to court. Crate the engine so it can be taken into the court room. This way your witnesses that are subject matter expert engine builders can highlight the shoddy workmanship for all of the jury to see (you need to try and get some media coverage on this to). I would sue for about $75,000.00. I don't know you or him but from the post that I have seen from both of you, as a jurror on a jury, you would have $75,000.00 in your pocket. Good luck and I hope you get some justice!!!

Like others said....

Tear it down and document it is the first step.

Then have it checked for what you bought or thought you were sold vs what you actually got.

Then take it to the next level......

Good Luck bro.....
