26in ET-Streets suck for these trucks...

...I had a set off my 99 WS6 I put on some rims that fit the L. Ran them tonight and ran slower than having my 20in rims on. Partly due to the fact because I couldn't get them to hook no matter what I did. Truck went sideways off the line the first time then wouldn't hook the following times. Even when it did hook my mph was down 1.5-2 so I'll be selling them. Anyway what's a good size to run on the L?

26inch tire for approx low-mid 12s up

28inch tire for mid-high 11s

30inch under mid 11s

not exact times but it depends on what ur mods are to what size u wanna run but thats an approx idea

The last dyno I went to put me at 400rwhp and 523rwtq on 20's, my friend with same mods minus muffler put down 412rwhp and a little less torque. Anyway, all I have is 6# pulley, chip, jlp cai, e-fans, and a borla muffler, riding on 20's. With those mods on the slicks it ran 8.7,8.5, then 8.441 at 81.x mph. Put my street tires back on and first pass down the track it went 8.440 @ 83.x mph feathering the throttle off the line. I think the smaller diameter wheel is causing my mph to be lower, oh ya my 60's averaged 1.9x-2.0 on the slicks and low 1.9's on the street tires. 8.4 is a low 13 second run almost 12 thus I would think she has more in her considering the rwhp and mods. I'm thinking on 28in slicks it will do maybe 8.1-8.2????

P.S. I'm not sure what I want for the slicks yet.

Now wait a minute here...

I trap 3-4 mph faster and run 0.4 quicker with 26" ET streets vs 28" F1s or my new 31" radials. (in the 1/4)

Running a smaller diameter tire is exactly what you want for running at an 1/8th mile track W/3.55 gears.

If your running slower it's not because of the tires. It's because of the launch technique. Do a good smokey burnout up into 3rd gear. On the last yellow go WOT and let off the brake. Even at a crappy track you ought to see 1.8s 60 fts and 8.1-8.2 ETs.

BTW: Bigger slicks will improve your off the line bite. But the rest of the run will be slower.

1/8 mile is a different animal.
Here's my dyno sheet from March of '03.

Sorry that it is sideways...Run 7 with 28" tall F1's, Run 10 with 26" tall ET Streets. No changes were made except the tires and the runs were 30 min apart.

28 inchers will slow you down more! You will lose some MPH on any slick compared to a street tire, cause its not as stiff on the top end. I have had very good luck with my 26 inchers, but they did take a while to break in.

Seems like a few things come into play here. ET streets works just fine. I've got the 28" and usually pull 1.7 60fts on an average prepped track. You just have to get a good burn-out and also find the right tire pressure that works for that track.

The 26" is a lot shorter diameter wise than the stock 18" with F1's so it is essentially like you are changing the rear gearing. If you have 3:73 this combo would be more like a 4:10. Could give you less mph, but could also get you a quicker launch for a faster ET. I've not seen huge differences there, but there are some.

I saw you said you are running 20's. I assume your chip has been re-programmed for that change as that also changes your effective gearing. If it has I'd say besides your 60 ft not being what it should be you might have seen a loss in your time and mph due to your shift points being off as well.

My chip is tuned for the 20's well I told them I had 20's anyway. I wonder if the slicks didn't get hot enough, I did my burnout in 1st gear only. Also I have an 03 so I'm running 3.73 gears to answer wydopnthrt's statement. What kind of times are you guys running with this setup? Granted I probly have a little more weight then some since I have a pace edwards retractable tonneau cover, sprayed in bedliner, the 20's and no weight reduction done at all.

Do you have a race program? If so I suggest you get the chip burned for using the 26" or back to stock if you decide to buy 28" slicks on your race program. Then have your street program for the 20's. If you have more than one program maybe a race for the 20's and a race program for slicks, whichever size you choose.

That's cool man, I used to have a 99 before I bought my WS6. Now I'm looking to sell my WS6 and coming back to the L lol. As for the chip it's just a single chip not a flip chip, didn't think it was worth the money at the time since I allready have my chip from my 99 just paid $50 for the reburn. I guess I don't feel too bad, there was another 01+ L there running 8.9-9.0's Anyway thanks for the input guys!
