Co-worker with a Corvette

So I am in my office and a co-worker comes up and tells me he was talking to another co-worker with a Corvette. He said “I should introduce you two since you are both into cars”. I didn’t think much of it but sure enough 10 minutes later he brings him by. He introduces us and then says hey why don’t you show him that video you showed me a couple of months ago. (I have a few vids of me at the track in the lightning and the one he is talking about is me vs a C5 Corvette).

I told him I don’t think I have it anymore even though I new I did. I didn’t feel right showing it to him because its almost like a “Hi how are you, My car is better than yours.” thing.

So anyway we start talking a bit and he asks me what I drive. I show him a picture of my truck (my desk top background is a pic of my truck) and he says “Oh a truck”. So I tell him it’s pretty fast for a truck and start describing it. Once I got to the part about it being supercharged he tells me that’s cheating. I tell him it came from the factory with it, and he says still it’s just not a real motor. So by that time I start telling him that power is power no matter how you make it. He then says something to the effect that even with a 5L and a supercharger his LS1 makes more power. I tell him it’s a 5.4L and try to be nice telling him I really like the LS1 and actually had a very modified LT1 4th Gen Camaro. He asks how fats my truck is, so by this time I was getting annoyed with the fact that he was putting down my truck so I told him. “Hang on let me see if I can find that video”. So I get it on my screen and show me beating a 2003 Corvette by a pretty large margin. Corvette ran 13.7 and I ran 12.6. He tells me that it must have taken a lot of money to get my truck that fast so when I told him it took a total of $800 he was very surprised and humble to say the least, I feel bad now but ahh well.

Thanks for listening to my boring story

Your story sucks.........not one "I was like.... Dude," or "he was like, Dude," in it. LOL

I like Corvettes but there is no reason to be an A-hole thinking you car is the best in the world. If there is one thing I've learned since buying the L it's that there is always someone faster than you are!

I had a coworker like that too, some rich daddy's money guy with a 911 twin turbo. talking all this schitt all the time. everyone in my office knows i am a car knut and they all come up to me for advice (feel sorry for them) so finally in the middle of the sales floor one day he starts talking crap again. I tell him you are going to be real embarrassed when my 30K 5ooolb pick up beats your all wheel drive 120K porsche. Somebody overhears it and says put your money were your mouth is. So we both go down stairs and go at it on a back road behind my job. We ran for maybe a block and he never passed my passenger side door.
It was great because like 20 people from the office saw it and they all can not stand this guy because he is always talking smack about this or that.

Unfortunately, as someone who owns two Vettes, I have to admit that you ran into a very typical C5 owner. They have no clue about any other car, but the one they drive. They just bought a Vette b/c they can now afford it (maybe), and its a status thing...has very little to do with performance.

Typical C5 owners do not work on their own cars, overpay for parts (not always their fault...the C5 aftermarket is just expen$ive at times) and service, and very few of them actually race.

They are not "car guys", but rather guys who just happen to own a sports car. They will trade/sell it in a few years anyway when the novelty wears off.

Honestly, I've found a lot of C5ers who are very rude, which is why I always loved "half-tracking" them in my old '90 Mustang. But whatever. The C5 itself is an excellent sports car for the $$, and there are a few of us out there who are hot-rodders and true performance enthusiasts.

I hope he is stupid enough to race you.

WA 2 FST: You speak the truth

The Corvette has always been one of my favorite cars. My brother has a 69 Covertable with a 427 and 4 spped manual, my Cousin have a 97 C5 and it is an amazing car to drive. Its a shamethat some people are so narrow minded.

I see where you are coming from WA 2 FST. Almost all of my friends are Chevrolet enthusiasts, they will buy nothing but Chevy and hate Ford (true for most GM owners).

Anyway, when I bought my L they all said the same thing "Your Cheating" blah blah blah.... Yet they rant and rave about a supercharged camaro beating a Corvette Z06??? The fact is, no matter what, a GM owner will find something wrong with Ford and stick to it.

I'd like to see the look on their faces when Chevrolet comes out with their new "Supercharged Joe Gibbs Truck". Wait... Thats cheating!!!!!

I got a co-worker with a SRT-4, we talk cars all the time, but he said he wont race me. He'll talk about all the mustangs and ricers hes smoked. I guess hes just to affraid to lose.

Another co-worker got upset when I "cut him off" one day. I really just pulled out in front of him. I tried to explain to him that my truck could acclerate faster then his little saturn could even dream about. He asked me if I wanted to race. I said I'd put the pinks on it. Then he said "ok Im going to race you in my integra type-r" I told him the offer still stood. He talked a lot of game but never brought his integra in which has "a new engine". One day he showed up very somber and told me the race was off because he watched his friend get smoked by an L. It was the typical "I didnt know they were that fast"

Unhappy co-worker with a corvette

WA 2 FST is absolutely correct. After being a lifelong ford owner I purchased a new corvette in 1996. I soon came to realize that owner's of other chevrolet products do not care for corvette owners. They view them as white collar and assume they do not work on cars or know anything about them. I just thought it was interesting that there was a rift among the chevy owning population. Maybe some others of you have experienced this?

However, there are cool Corvette guys too. I ran into a couple of older gentlemen at the strip one night running C5's. Really fun talking to them, then watching one click off a 6.9 in the 1/8th

Z06 intake, cams, stock block, 200 shot on et streets.

Hate to run into that on the street.
