Cool Wallpaper #9: A little sibling rivalry for the 05 L

The Lightning concept revealed at SEMA seems a little too fussy to me, with its boxy treatment, chiseled cuts, faceted body panels, and sharp corners. I know the new F-150 is generally boxier than our "heritage" bodystyle, but I think Ford maybe went overboard with their cold, hard, machine-like design on the Lightning concept (keep the angular designs over at Cadillac please!). I still prefer the softly-rounded shoulders and muscular curves of our bodystyle, and I think a less "sharp" treatment of the new F-150 can be equally aggressive and sporty. Since I missed the chance to design my own rendition of the next generation Lightning, I decided to just apply some of these ideas to a different F-150 variant I made up. Behold the 2005 "F-150R"... the 05 Lightning's smoother, sexier little brother!

That looks awesome, but I still think Ford has to get rid of those extra little rear doors.

A regular cab truck should only have two doors

Nice job. What about making the front grill one piece, like the '05 Audi's. That way the fascia wouldn't look added on. Just a thought.

not to shabby..I like the exhaust. Still needs a little bit more though, it doesn't scream Lightning when I look at it, none the less it still looks good.

I'm not gonna expend the effort that bmw did, plus i probably couldnt get anywhere near the level of quality he does. But just a quick edit to see sorta what it would look like. I'll just say I agree with Don.

Just hope he doesnt mind i used his bottom section. If you want me to edit it and crop it out lemme know i'll get to it.

About the extra doors. I have both a Lightning and a Super Cab. Once you live with the extra door for a while you realize just how "loose" it makes the body feel. I'll take a regular cab or a crew cab, thanks. No more flexy doors for me.........

Slam the door and the body still vibrates 30 seconds later.

I like some parts of it, definately..... but I think the front end (circular lights scream SVT, not square) and the grill don't look SVT or Lightning-like to me. I think all the rest does, definately.

great photoshop

-Mike

P.S. also, I'd consider what 2 pipes would look like, instead of one. and finally, not sure about the wheels. I wonder what that'd look like if it had that same "bent" version, with a "crease" in the middle like the current 03/04

...if that makes any sense?

Better than what was shown at SEMA!! Think Ford / SVT might take a survey of current owners!! Since we will be the likely one's to put down the $$$$$.$$ for them! Artie!

grinomyte, I love what you've done with the cab there. I like the shorter, simpler look too. The photo I started with had the full 4 doors, and I considered chopping it down all the way to a traditional regular cab, but I didn't think Ford had a true "regular" cab for the new F-150 (the one on the SEMA concept looks awkward with that false window and beefy B-pillar), so I just used this one. Not sure why I decided to limit myself to Ford's cab selection though, since it's not a real vehicle anyway! If I have time tonight, I may try and do a cleaner job on a shortened cab version.

Red03SVT, I played around with round foglights and they just didn't seem to match the square shapes and boxy lines of the rest of the truck (to me at least, they looked out of place or something). I also experimented with a couple different exhaust options (dual round, square, etc), but decided to go with the single exit pipe (1 on each side) for fun. Since it's supposed to be an "F-150R" (whatever that is?) and not an SVT, I used some cues from the Mustang GTR concept (with it's side exit exhaust on metal plate).

MHMCGILL, please tell me you don't like the new Audi grill treatment!

In my opinion they need to redesign that flare side bed so it doesn’t look like a Chevy flare side bed. I have seen a few new 04 flare sides and the first thing that comes to mind is Chevy.

I haven't made up my mind about the new Audi's yet, however I thought that the tall grill would break up the add on fascia. Nevertheless awesome job.
