Could it be the eaton droping off at 5k?
cause the kb dyno's just keep going but eaton runs drop off at around 5k.

it's a ported eaton. the dive in the graph ONLY happens on nitrous runs.

here is a NON-nitrous run, no problem and no eaton falling off.

ok

And for those of you into JDM/JLP numbers (STD):
Kinda uncalled for........ I don't think Jim or Johnny created STD correction factors.........nor are they the only people using them.

hmmm

well, since you are registed as of nov of 03, you obviously weren't around here for the begining of the infamous tuner wars. It's calmed down but it seems they all can't help but take a shot at one another every now and again

It's not uncalled for at all. It's just the truth. Take it as you like. JDM and JLP are posting STD numbers for their big power trucks. Those numbers are higher than SAE numbers, which if you want to "compare" numbers, should be used.

As for Chris' power drop off, it's still a mystery at this point, although we DID make some progress on it. Chris has had his truck on 3 seperate dynos, and his truck has done this on all three, and only on nitrous. The truck hits 5k on the nose and loses 100 hp. We did everything imaginable yesterday to try to elimintate it. We swapped MAFs, PCMs, and other parts. The truck has had both Autologic and CMR chips in it, with completely different tunes and still does it. I logged every PID the NGS allowed and saw nothing change at 5k. Timing stays up, and A/F does NOT change. That's what was killing us. A hundred hp drop and no A/F change. Later in the day, I starting thinking maybe spark blow out. So we pulled the plugs and gapped them down to .025. The result of that was now it only dropped 50hp, instead of 100. So maybe we were onto something. But then I noticed something else. I was only pulling Chris' truck to about 5200 rpm. He brought dyno graphs from another dyno shop that was pulling his motor all the way to 6000. On those graphs, power came back on around 5400. So I pulled his truck to 5500 and sure as heck, power dropped at 5k and came back at 5400. We still have no idea why.

I agree with you. I guess to me......it kinda sounded like you were implying that they inflate their number with std correction, like the customer didn't know there was a difference. Most of the guys with high hp truck know that there is a difference between standard and corrected number. Hell........I lost torque numbers when going from sae to std. Not meaning to start a flame, but if I took it that way, i'm sure there were more.

Don, in a way, it's a marketing tactitc. You have something to sell, and if there are two ways to show it, some people chose to show the better looking number. There's nothing wrong with showing STD numbers, IF you tell people they are STD. But then again, posting a STD number really means nothing, because it's not a corrected "comparable" number. STD numbers are what the vehicle actually did, right there, in that weather. They are REAL numbers. But since they are not corrected, you can't really compare them to "someone elses" numbers, unless of course they dynoed at the same time with you. Sometimes STD number will actually be lower; it all depends on what the actual air is like at the time of dyno. Here on the east coast, we usually see better air than what SAE gets corrected to, so STD numbers are generally higher. I made the comment I made, because most readers just look at the numbers on the graph. Most people don't know what SAE and STD even are. So if I posted Chris' numbers in SAE, and someone wanted to compare them to say, Charlie's numbers, Charlie's number would look more impressive. However Charlie's were in STD. When I switch Chris' to STD, then his are practically equal to Charlie's. But without me pointing that out, nobody would ever know. See my point?

Isn't STD a correction factor as well? It doesn't really represent the actual HP the truck made under the conditions present either. Correct? Regardless, I've noticed that a lot of people who are trying to sell something will use the highest possible representation of benefit to their advantage. It's called marketing. If someone wants to point out that this is going on, in order to market their product, what's the problem? What's good for the goose....

Sal I understand what you are saying, but saying it like......"If your into that JLP/JDM kinda thing" may have not been the best choice of words........I'm sure you know what I mean. No harm , no foul
