Question Fuel filter & Center cap of wheel?

Yah, I know it’s an odd heading…

First question, tomorrow as routine maintenance on my L as recommend by a highly regarded figure here at F150 (Fast Gator) I will be changing the oil since I have 500 miles on the motor. So I thought I might as well change the fuel filter as well.

I have read post that state to relieve pressure with the valve on the fuel rail, and/or leaving the gas cap off over night and even to not bother with any of it and just disconnect it since a only a small amount of fuel leaks out anyway. So the question is what is the best method? If it is leaving the gas cap off overnight will my garage be a highly flammable zone tomorrow morning with fumes?

Second, I want to get a few coats of Zaino on the rims so I figured it would be easy to just take them off so I can clean not just the front but the back of the rim as well since it’s a tight fit with the brake disk. That way I can get a few coats of Zaino on the entire rim which will make it even easier to clean.

So, next question is on the center cap, does it just pop off? Do you wedge something in between it to pop it off or will it pop off when you remove the wheel?

Thanks for the info and tips…

First time is a learning experience after that it is easier. An old pizza pan critticaly placed works for me. Or get one of the tinfoil turkey roasting things and save it just for that job.

Center cap will come off with your fingers. I think you will figure it out when you get the wheel off and see it from the back.

Watch out what you do with those rags that get covered with brake dust. Get them in the trash and keep it away from the paint. That stuff is very abrasive.

I wouldn't even bother with all that relieve pressure stuff, not much leaks out. I changed mine the other day after I had drove it to the parts store and back, the only thing I did was open the fuel cap, the fiter is very easy to get to. Just have a towel handy to catch the fuel, I only got fuel on my hands so I didn't think it was that bad.

So it sounds like you’re saying the center cap is part of the wheel and for what I am doing there is really no need for me to pop it off?

No worry about the rags with brake dust I plan on washing the wheels after I get them off with soap and water, drying them then polishing them…

Now thats some funny chit

knowing you, this is what I did.
I pulled the wheels off the truck one at a time. I then applied a liberal coat of Zanio on both the front and back of the wheel. Might be over kill for some, but Iam betting you'll be putting two coats one

btw.......4 and 1 on the pool league. hahahahahahaha

And F what anybody says about changing the oil........cheapest thing that does the most protection!

Yes, the center cap comes off with the wheel. No need to remove it.

Yes, I will only be able to take one wheel off at a time because I am using my other jacks on my camping trailer for winter storage or I would have taken both wheels off one side then the other…

2 coats of Z on the wheels? Hell I am going to put 3 coats on the wheels…

And you right about the oil being the cheapest thing with the most protection. Going to change it tomorrow with 500 miles, then again at 1,500 miles then at 3,000 miles and after that every 3,000 miles like I normally do…

It’s funny I was telling a guy at work how I change oil, and what I am doing for this break-in period and he goes off on some tree hugging speech. Told him if he didn’t shut the fluk up that rather then taking my used oil to Auto Zone I would just dump it in the ground to give somebody another opportunity to discover oil again a few million years down the line.

He shut up…
