HEMI Ram, what a JOKE

You know, it's funny. These Dodge Hemi Ram owners are like the second coming of the Dakota R/T. What I mean by that is you have a truck that runs mid 15s, and they all think they can take a stock Lightning. The dumber ones that have a little Chevy mentality mixed in, think they can beat anything on wheels just because the side of their truck says R/T or Hemi on it. It's like saying a stock Gen 1 Lightning (which turns ETs the same as the Hemis and Dakota R/Ts) could beat a stock Gen 2.

I was coming home from the pet store tonight, in my diesel VAN. Now of course I have the graphics on it that match the Lightning, so some people may take that as I think it's fast. So I'm sitting at a light, and this black brand new Hemi ram pulls up next to me. It had two kids in it that didn't even look old enough to drive, and the owner must have been real proud of his new truck, cause it had the word HEMI in big fat white letters across the top of the windsheild. They are looking over at me and lauging, while the driver is attempting (key word there btw) to power brake the truck. So I look over and smile, while at the same time I'm flipping my chip to the +80hp performance program. The light turns green, I let them take off first cause I have a new glass aqaurium in the van so I couldn't spool up the turbo for a nice launch. I slowly ease into the throttle and by the time I'm at WOT, they have about a 3 truck lead. Within seconds I've caught them, and passed them, covering them in a nice cloud of black diesel smoke . They remained about 1 truck back up to about 100 where I left off because the EGTs were getting high. Of course they did the ricer fly by.

Now my van runs high 15s on the 80hp program, with a good spooled launch. It was a decent race, but I was in a VAN. If these guys think they have a prayer against Lightnings, they are insane.

90% of people are idiots when it comes to cars. Its all about the marketing.

I raced a stock 2wd Hemi at the track.... 14.8 to my 12.8. Its not fast.. We know that... They are just misinformed. Most them have never even heard of a Lightning.

14.8 doesn't seem to bad for a stock naturaly aspirated 1/2 ton truck. I don't think an F 150 with a 5.4 can do that stock. I do know that the hemi can come to life with a supercharger and a few mods, so beware. They can easily hit 500hp.

I would rather have a sister in Prison, than have a brother that drives a HEMI. The commercials are enough to make me puke.

" Is that a HEMI"

Dumbazz #2 "you are about to find out"

Nice kill Sal. It kills me to see the guys acting all proud of their "hemi" Dodge's. The new motor is nothing like the true Hemi. Dodge puts a little power into a V8, and the marketing gurus say "let's call it a Hemi" and everybody goes nuts.

While I'm on my soap box, I also hate the new ads that Dodge has where they compare their Hemi against Fords "new F150". So they take their baddest engine (SRT 10 wasn't out yet) and put it up against Fords second best motor and talk like their king of the hill. They wont run it against an L, cause we'd smoke their a$$'s.

Hey this is almost starting to look like a Rob response. Sorry for carring on.

Sal- While its true that a Hemi won't beat a lightning, I can tell you that it is one of the top N/A engines available today. My brother has a stone stock extra cab 1500 and we ran it at a respectable 15.38 at 96 mph. This is on par with the Gen I lightnings.True the H.P. is about 40 more but it does weigh more. Now stick a kenne Bell on it and I will bet you dollars to doughnuts that it will be a close race with any stock Lightning. We're talking apples to apples here, even with the weight advantage going to the Ford. Why? because the N/A Dodge has more H.P. than the N/A 5.4. I would have thought that a S/C version of the Hemi ,with an automatic would have been a much better choice than the V-10 manual .I feel that with the way todays trucks are complying to more of a car-like ride and handling, that putting in a manual transmission is like taking a step backwards. As you all know I had a quick Gen I and now own a quicker Gen II., after riding in the Dodge 2 things are evident. 1) the truck cannot leave the starting line anywhere near as good as a roots equipped truck..BUT, it does pull very hard from the midrange on up to redline. Now, I hear that K.B. is (or maybe just did) releasing the twin screw for the Hemi. That being said, one can only phathom what one of these will do with good tuning in a reg cab shortbed.BTW, he can also break the tires loose (with 20 inchers) just by stomping on the gas.Nothing mind-blowing, but they do spin for about 2 seconds or so.Powerbracking it will easily spin them.I think you gotta give Dodge credit for attemting to enter the high-perf arena of trucks. The real question is when will Chevy get with the program??That S.S. truck should be embarrased with that 6 liter of theirs. Just my .02

Nothing blowing smoke all over the unsuspecting victim in a chipped powerstroke. I have a 60hp chip in f350 and it can take down its share of ricers smoking all the way.

Latemodelracer- Remind me to post a link of that 11.4 second pass that a F350 supercab longbed turbo deisel did (with 24 inch wheels no less) did not too long ago. He destroyed a modified 1995 RX-7 in the process (even let him go first). To see it is to believe it.I will post it soon (if you already haven't seen it.
